Description
diritti gaat @met I' dimite.
Letters Patent No. 92,824, dated July 20, 1869.
IMPROVED REIN-HOLDER.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the Same.
To all whom it may concern.:
Be it known that l, M. C. HEPTINSTALL, of Enfield, in the county of Halifax, and State of North Carolina, have invented a new and improved Rein-Holder; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and-exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the ait to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification.
The object of this' invention is to provide a simple and reliable rein-handle or holder toV which drivingreins may be connected, for holding more securely than can be done by the common method of holding them.
Figure l represents anelevation of a rein-handle or holder to which the reins may beseonred by clamps.
Figure 2 represents a similar view of the same, arrangedfor secnringthe reins thereto by buckling around the ends in grooves.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. l l
I provide a wood, metal, or other handle, A, shaped as may lbehest suited for holding inthe hand, to which I secure the lines, one at; each end, or if drivingwith more than two lines, they may be adapted for the attachment, of two or more at each end.
As one armngementfor attaching the lines, I employ hinged clamps, B, swinging in the direction of the length of the handle, which are preferably flattened, and may be roughened or serrated in the parts facing the clamps, and for the more securely holding the reins the clamps may also be ronghened.
These clamps have slots near their outer ends, through which flat-headed turn-buttons, C, pass, when the clamps are turned down upon. the reins. These buttons are turned to fasten the clamps after passing through the slots, in a manner-well understood,
By a modification of the above arrangement, I propose, instead of the employmentof theclamps, to turn oneor more annular grooves, D, in the enlarged ends of the handles, and secure the reins thereto by buckling around them, as shown in red in fig. 2.
By the use of these holders, the reins may be held much more easily and safely than by the present method. v n
Having thus described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is'
Rein-holders A, either provided with the clamps B, and turn-buttons C, or the annular grooves D, and applied to driving-reins, substantially as specified.'
