Letters Patent No. 100,046, dated February 22, 1870.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, ZEPHANIAH A. F. LEFEBERE and JAMES H. DAVIS, of Plattshurg, in the county of Clinton, and State of New York, have invented a new and improved Whip-Socket Holder; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the'art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification.
This invention relates to a new and useful attachment for connecting whip-sockets to the dash-boards, and holding them in a way to be readily detached, and consists of a clasp-ring made in two parts, jointed together at one end, and provided with catches at the other which spring together, one of the said parts being provided with a short outward curve to take around theiron bar of the dash-board, or with a hole for screwing or riveting to the said bar when made of wood. 1
Figure 1 is a plan view of our improved holder, as arral'lged-for attachment to the iron bar, and
Figure 2 represents a dash-hoard and whip-socket in elevation, showing the application of the said holders.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A B are the two parts of a metal ring, jointed to gether at O, and suitably notched at the other end to orm a spring-catch when forced together.
The part B is provided with the outward curve I), of the proper size to take around the bar E of a dashboard when made of iron, a hole being formed in the leather or sheet-metal part B for the purpose, so that the said rings, encircling both the socket and the bar and clasped together, will hold the one firmly to the other.
In cases where the bars E are made of wood, we r propose, instead of curving the part B around them, to enlarge it sufiiciently to make screw-holes, and attach them by screwing to the said bars. The springoatches may be forced open bythe blade of aknife, or other similar instrument, when required.
Having thus described our invention,
\Ve claim as new and desire to seoureby Letters Patexit- Attaching whip-sockets to the dash -boards by means of the rings A B, made in two parts, hinged together at one end, and arranged to fasten by spring-catches at the other, and, either proyided with the. curves D or screw-holes for attachment to the iron or wood bars of the said dash-boards, all sabstantially as specified.
