ATTACHMENT FOR WASHBOILERS.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CATHARENE MOLETOR, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Attachments for {'Vashboilers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to attachments for wash boilers and its object is to provide a chute for a wash boiler by which means the wet clothes may be removed to a bucket or receptacle while the boiler is on the stove without allowing the water to drain over the hot stove. These and other details and obj ects of the invention will be more fully described in the following specification, set forth in the claims and illustrated in the drawings, where:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a wash boiler provided with the improved attachment. Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of same. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view through the attachment.

The serious objection to the removal of clothing in process of washing from the boiler is the dripping of the water upon the stove while being transferred to a receptacle to cool and be wrung out for drying. The water which drips upon the stove rusts it and in evaporation produces too mu eh moisture and often unpleasant odors. To overcome these objections an inclined tray 5 is provided with a hook 6 at its upper end to fit over the side of the boiler and braces 7 to support the tray in an inclined. position against the side of the boiler and to hold the tray or chute in its operative position. The sides 8 are elevated above the tray to guide the clothes placed thereon, and to brace the tray and they are curved to receive the side pieces 9 of the sliding extension 10. This extension 10 increases or decreases the length of the chute to provide for the height of the receptacle and it is fitted to the lower side of the tray and has guideways 11 and a pivoted latch 12 with a pin and knob 13 at its free end to swing it on its pivot 14.

The tray 5 carries a plate 5 below its lower surface and within which swings the latch 12 while the knob and pin 13 project to the outer side of the plate and through the slot 15. Lateral slots 16 extend from the main slot 15 and into one of the former the pin 13 Specification of Letters Patent.

is lodged when the extension is carried out to its desired length thus securing the extension which can only be moved again when the latch is swung to its central position so that the slot 15 permits the pin 13 to pass along the plate until the extension is roperly located. The upper face of hoo: 6 is reinforced as shown in Fig. 3 'to strengthen it.

The attachment may be cheaply and substantially made of sheet metal and adapted to fit either side of the wash-boiler and any desirable form of fastening means may be adopted for the extension although a swinging latch as shown has been found most serviceable.

It is obvious that other modifications may be made in the details of the device without departing from the essential features above described.

When the pail is put into position beside the waslrboiler the extension may be brought down into same and when the pail is to be removed the extension is shoved up out of the way without necessitating the removal of the attachment.

WVhat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. In a detachable chute, the combination with a tray having a hooked upper end and braces, of an extension, and a latch to adjust.- ably secure the extension to the tray.

2. In a detachable chute, the combination with a tray having a hooked upper end and tubular sides, of an extension with curved sides to fit the tubular sides, and locking means for holding the two parts together.

3. In a detachable chute, the combination with an inclined tray having attaching means at its upper end and braces, of tubular ends, an extension with rounded ends to slide in the tubular ends, a slotted plate on the tray, and a pivoted latch on the extension.

4. In a detachable chute, the combination with an inclined tray having guides at its sides, of an extension with sides fitting in the guides, a plate with a slot and lateral notches, and a pivoted latch on the extension having a pin to fit one of the notches.
