JEWELEWS DISPLAY STAND.
APPLIOATION nLnn nov. 30 1908.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MAX JERSEMANN AND LOUIS WAGNER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
JEWELERS DISPLAY-STAND.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, MAX J ERSEMANN and LoUIs /VAGNER, citizens of the United States, at present residing in New York city, State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Jewelers Display-Stands, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is a novel construction of display stand for jewelers use, the object being to provide a stand with interchangeable pads so that a variety of colored pads can be used in connection with a single base and frame, thereby avoiding the necessity of carrying both frames and pads, inasmuch as one frame can be used in connection with any desired number of different pads which may be changed as often as desired for the purpose of providin either a fresh and clean background, or a different colored background, and the invention therefore, has for its object economy in the outlay of display stands.
Another object of the invention is to provide a display stand with an interchangeable cushion, and at the same time employ the supporting means for the purpose of retaining the cushion within the frame as well as serving to support the said frame.
WVith these objects in view our invention consists essentially in providing a base or frame having an opening therein and in providing a cushion which is adapted to fit within the frame or base, and which has an eye or loop or staple attached to and projecting from, the rear side thereof, said eye or staple extending through the opening in the base and an easel support having a-member adapted to be inserted through said eye or staple for the purpose of connecting the cushion or pad to the base or frame, and at the same time connecting the said easel support to said frame, whereby the said base or frame carrying the cushion or pad can be supported at the proper inclination.
The invention consists also in certain details of construction, and novelties of combination, all of which will be fully described hereinafter, and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawing forming a part of this specificationz-Figure 1 is a perspective view of a device constructed in accordance with our invention, the support and fastening means being shown in dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a rear view of said device. Fig. 3 is a face view of a combined base and frame, the pad being removed. Fig. 4 is a vertical sec- Specification of Letters Patent.

tional view of the pad. Fig. 5 is a vertical sectional View taken through the complete device, and Fig. 6 shows a slightly modified form of support.
In carrying out our invention, we employ a base A which may be of any size or shape and which is preferably surrounded by means of a suitable ornamental frame B, said base and frame being preferably formed integral and this combined base and frame may be made from any suitable material, but in practice we prefer to make the same from a composition which will form the subject matter of a future application for patent.
If desired a rim C may be arranged, upon the interior of the frame B, and within said frame and rim and resting upon the base is a pad D covered with velvet, or any other suitable material, and preferably having one or more supporting hooks D, upon which articles of jewelry may be suspended or hung, and rest against the pad, said pad serving as a background to properly display the said article. Now, in order to secure this pad to the combined frame and base, and at the same time provide a connecting means for the support, we provide the said pad upon its rear side with the eyes or loops E, preferably two in number, and connected to the rear of the pad in any suitable manner, and of such a length as to project through the opening A produced in the base A, and these eyes or loops E after being projected through said opening are engaged by the pivot-members F of the wire easel support F, said easel support being preferably constructed from a single piece of spring wire so that the members can be pressed together for the purpose of permitting pivot members to be introduced into the eyes or loops, as most clearly shown in Fig. 2, and after being so connected, the entire device can be set up after the fashion of an ordinary easel, and the article of jewelry arranged upon the pad. \Vhenever it is desired to remove the pad, the wire support F is disconnected, and then by pressing upon the eyes or loops from the rear the pad can be quickly and easily detached, and another pad of similar shape inserted and secured.
In Fig. 6 we have shown a slight modification in which only a single eye or loop G is employed, and the easel support II has only a single pivot member H, but the fastening and supporting operations are identically the same.
By means of our invention a manufacturer can supply one combined base and frame, and any desired number of pads and these pads can be changed as often as desired, and by having them diflerent colors, the same frames can be employed, and a variety of changes can be had by simply changing the pads. Furthermore, some pads may be constructed for supporting Watches, while others are constructed for supporting brooches and other articles of jewelry, and these can be shifted or changed, as desired.
It will thus be seen that We provide a simple and economical. construction of display device, capable of carrying out all of the objects hereinbefore referred to.
Having thus fully described our invention, What We claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A display device comprising a combined base and frame, a pad arranged upon said base, and Within the frame a fastening means arranged upon the back of the pad and projecting through the base, and a supporting means adapted for connection with the fastening means, whereby all of said parts are connected and supported.
2. A display device com )rising combined base and frame, a pan fitting Within the frame, an eye carried by said pad and projecting through the base and an easel support adapted to engage said eye, as set forth.
3. A display device comprising a combined base and frame having apertures in the base, a pad having eyes upon the rear side, and adapted to project through the apertures in the base, and a Wire easel support, the pivotal members of which are adapted to engage the eyes carried by the pad, after being projected through the base, as set forth.
