REUBEN B. DISBRW, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA, ASSIGNOR UF ONF-HALF 'I'O LEVI A DISBROW, OF OWATONNA, MINNESOTA.
OIL-BURNER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l', liiunicN B. Disnnow, of Minneapolis, llcnnepin county, Minnesota, have invented certain Improvements in Oil- Burners, of which the following is a specilication.
This invention relates to improvements in burners designed l'or vaporixiiig and burning heavy oils, and the objects l have in view are to rovide a burner of this character which Wil bc simple and inexpensive in construetion, and in which the oil will be thoroughly and coniplwteljr vaporized,v whereb)r a perfect combustion of the saine may be obtained and in which there will be no danger of clogging thc burnei'.
The invention consists generally in the constructions and combinations hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation ot' a burner embodying niy invention, Showing also the location of-the burner in connection with a boiler and showing also the means for a preliminary heating of the oil. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section of the burner. Fig. 'is a plan view ot' the saine. Fig. 4 is a transverse section on line 4--4 oi' Fig. 2. Fig 5 is a front end elevation. Fig. is a side elevation of the conical sprayer.

Application tiled November G, 1905.
fn the drawings 2 represents a suitable oil f.
pipe which may be of any suitable diameter lsupplied to the chamber 1n.A 'lhe oil thereand length. 'l`he forward end ol' this pipe is ireferablv exterior] screw-threatled and sed .l n Y cured thereto is the conical block I which Vfornis a sprayer as hereinalter described. 'l`his block is provided ith a. central opening l1 the outerend ol'whieh flares ont\\'ard, fornr ing a, cone shaped inouth 5 (see Fig. 2). This block is also provided with a. series ol' spirallv arranged grooves or steanialucts ti. 'l`hese grooves are arranged in the outer surface ol' and completely vaporize the oil as it passes v the block and extend the full length thereof,
opening at their forward ends into thi` conical l 'l`he vapor as it passes out ol said conical mouth 5 of said sprayer-block. 'lhe block 3 is surrounded and inclosed by a head 7, having a conical opening into which said block l lits. ln the rear of the conical opening in said head is a chamber S and a suitable steam screwed into the rear end ol' the chamber S,
'the inner wall of said chamber and the outer wall ol' the pipe t) beingr suitably threaded.

coupling 1o to which is connected a. Suitable ste-ain supply pipe 11. 'l`he rear iortion of the oil-pipe 2 is preferably exteriorly threaded and the coupling is secured tothe pipe by the threaded plug l2.
'.lhe rear end of the oil-pipe 2 is preferably connected to a T-shaped coupling 13, provided with the threaded plug 14 and having connected to it the oil supply pipe l5. For the purpose of securing a preliminary heating ofthe. oil, the. pipe l5 has preferably a coiled portion which extends` through a-suitablc chamber lti. 'l`his chamber is adapted to receive steam through an inlet pipe 17. Is also'preferably provided with a drip-cock 1S.
At the outer end of the head 7 l prefer to provide a ring it), which may be secured to said head in any lsuitable manner as by a screw-threatled connection (scc Fig. 2) and which may be locked in an),r desired posit-ion by a suitable set. screw 2t). This ring is provided with a projecting arm 21 having pivoted thereon a dellector plate 22; this p ate fore enters the pipe 2 in a heated condition. As ity passes along' in the pipe 2 it is subjected to further heat from the steain passing along in the surroundingI pipes t). 'lhe oil passes out of the pipe 2 and through the opening in the block A1. .\s it enters the conical niouth 5 ot' said block it is subjected to the several l jets of steain which enter said conical mouth on spiral lines and which serve to thoroughly into the conical inouth of said sprayer bloc-k.
inouth is ignited and a complete combustion ol the oil is secured. lt will be noted that f the sprayer block can be adjusted with the pipe 2 by ineansl of the threaded plug 12. It will also be noted that should any foreign inaterial get into the pipe 2 the saine can be readily removed without taking the burner apart by reiuovingl the threaded plug 14 and running ii wire into the pipe 2 through the The rear end of the pipe ti is provided with a aperture in the sprayer block 3. The oil, vapor and lanie may be directed in any direction from the mouth of the burner by means of the adjustable dei'lector plate 22.
It is obvious that the preliminary heating of the oil may be secured by other means than the pipe 15 in the steam chamber 1G, or in some instances the oil may be used with out any preliminary heating.
I claim as my invention:
The combination, with an oil pipe, of a conical sprayer block having asocket to receive said pipe, said block having an aperture therethrough terminatingin a conical mouth, and a series 'of' spirally arranged grooves in its outer surface opening into said mouth, a head surroanding said block and having a conical opening to receive the conical surface of said block, and a chamber in the rear of Said block communicating with said grooves, a steam pipe having one end fitting into said head, and concentric with said oil pipe and spaced therefrom, a ring mounted on said head and adjustable thereon, an arm carried by said ring and a pivoted plate mounted on said arm near the aperture of said block, suhstantially as described.
In witness whereof7 l have hereunto set my hand this Sist day of October 1905.
