FREDDIE K. MARTIN, OF CHELSEA, OKLAHOMA.
OIL-BURNER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Locaties.
Application filed September 12, 1913.
To all whom, it may con/cern Be it known that I, F nnnnln K. MARTIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chelsea, in the county oi Rogers and State ott Oklahoma, have invented new and useful Improvements in Oil-Burners, ot' which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved oil burner especially adapted for burning crude pctroleum being also adapted for bluning other liquid hydrocarbons, the object oit the invention being to provide an improved burner of this kind which is extremely cheap and simple, the parts of which may be assembled and disassembled and may be kept clean and in order.
The invention consi ts in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure l is a vertical longitiulinal centralA sectional view of a burner constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse view of the same on the plane indicated by the line a-a of F ig. l.
In accordance with my invention I provide an oil supply duct l, which is a straight pipe and is provided at its outer end with an intake tubular arm 2 arranged at right angles thereto and to which an oil supply pipe from a si'litable reservoir is in practice connected. A steam jet pipe 3 is arranged in the oil supply duct 2, concentrically thereof and passes through an opening in the arm 2. This steam jet pipe extends about halt way through the oil supply duct l.
A mixer #L which is tubular in form and is of greater diameter than the oil supply duct has a reduced inner end 5 provided with an opening through which the said oil supply duct extends and also has a reduced outer end 6 formed with a nozzle or jet tip 7. The mixer is slidably .fitted on the oil supply duct and may be adjusted longitudinally thereon and secured in adjusted position by means oit' a clamping screw 8. In the sides of the mixing tube l at points about midway between the ends thereof is a series of Patented Mar. 10, 1914.
Serial No. 789,501.
air inlet openings t). A cover sleeve 10 is iitted on the outer side of the said mixer L and may be turned or moved to close the air intake openings to any desired extent.
In the operation of my improved burner steam trom a boiler is supplied to the steam jet pipe 3 and as it passes through the oil intake duct 2 creates the partial vacuum therein and hence causes oil as well as steam to be discharged into the mixer and also causes the oil to be atomized. Air is admittcd to the mixer through the openings 9 and becomes` coi'inningled with the atomized oil to render the latter' highly combustible and as the oil, air and steam issue from the mixer through the jet tip 7 the said mixture is burned in a clear flame and withoutl smoke. The heat caused by the [lame and Sm'rounding the burner in the furnace or other place where the burner is used also causes the burner to act as a retort and vaporize and promote the combustion ot the oil.
Having thus described my invention, ,li claim:
An oil burner of the class described con prising an oil supply duct having a teed arm at .right angles thereto, a steam jet pipe arranged ctimcentrically in said oil supply duct and extending through an opening in one side oi the feed arm thereo'", a tubular mixer of greater diameter than the oil supply duct and in which the latter is arranged, said mixer having a reduced inner end providing an opening through which the oil supply duct extends and being dctachably .fitted on said oil supply duct and being further provided with a reduced outer end provided with a jet tip, the mixer heng further provided with air inlet openings at a point int-,erinediate its ends and means to vary the ell'ectivc area ol' said air inlet openings.
In testimony whereo't l ai'lix my signature in presence ot two witnesses.
