Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed November 5, 1917. Serial No. 200,384.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, ALoAN C. JORDAN and VVILL R. BEAL, citizens of the United States of America, and residents of Arkansas City, in the county of Cowley and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oil-Burners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to oil burners and particularly to means for mixing oil and steam for increasing the combustibility of the oil and for preventing accumulation of carbon or other residue in the furnace.
A further object of this invention is to provide a combined oil and steam feed associated with a burner shell, the same being of a type for use in furnaces or the like.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in View, the invention consists in the details of construction, and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, wherein like characters denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in which Figure 1 illustrates a longitudinal sectional view of a body and fuel feeding means embodying the invention; and
Fig. 2 illustrates a sectional view on a line corresponding with the line 22 of Fig. 1.
In these drawings 5 denotes the burner shell having a plurality of apertures 6 for the supply of air and 7 illustrates an extension of the burner shell which is threaded into the member 5.
One end of the burner shell has a threaded aperture 8 in which a steam supply pipe 9 is threaded, the said steam supply pipe having a coupling 10 with a nipple 11 threaded in it for the supply of steam. An oil supply pipe 12 extends through the coupling at right angles to the nipple 11 and is held in the coupling by a threaded collar or nut 13 which engages threads in the end of the said coupling. The steam pipe 9 is also threaded in the coupling and the oil supply pipe 12 is smaller in diameter than the diameter of the steam pipe so that there is a channel or space 14- between the oil pipe and the steam pipe through which the steam passes to the burner shell or extension. In using the invention, the steam is admitted to the steam pipe through the coupling under such pres sure as to cause it to escape at the end of the pipe and commingle with oil issuing from the oil supply pipe. If desired, the steam pressure may be of such force as to draw the oil through the pipe under the principle of an injector or the oil may be fed by pressure according to the requirements in practice. The force of the steam passing into the burner casing is effective to draw air through the air ports so that the air and steam commingle with the oil and so support combustion as to insure very effective consumption of the fuel oil.
Owing to the fact that the threaded collar or nut receives the oil pipe and holds it in place, the work of assembling the pipes and burner is of a simple nature and does not require the employment of those having great skill to accomplish the result.
We claim In an oil burner, a T-coupling, a steam pipe secured in one end thereof, an oil pipe within the said steam pipe and in spaced relation therewith, a collar in the opposite end of the T-coupling adapted to receive one end of the oil pipe for supporting said pipe in spaced relation with the steam pipe, ex ternal threads on the said steam pipe intermediate its ends, a burner casing having a threaded aperture therein to engage the intermediate threads on the steam pipe, and an extension supported by said burner casing.
