y and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oil- Burners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in oil burners and more particularly to that class adapted to be used for burning crude oil and my object is to provide means for introducing air or steam around the burner and commingling the same with the oil at a point beyond the end of the burner.
A further object is to so construct the burner that the point of combustion will be extended beyond the head of the burner. And a further object is to provide means for increasing or decreasing the size of the flame at the end of the burner as occasion may require.
Other objects and ,advantages will be hereinafter set forth and more particularly pointed out in the accompanying specification. i
In the accompanying drawings which are made a part of the application, Figure 1 is a plan view of the burner. Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal sectional view, as seen on line 2-2 of Fig. l, and Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view through the burner` head, as seen on line 3-3 of Fig; 2.
Referring to the drawings in which similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, 1 indicates the oil conveying pipe which is attached in any suitable manner to a supply tank, or the like, (not shown), said pipe terminating at one end in a nozzle 2, the exterior wall' of which is beveled to form a substantially frusto-conical structure. The air or steam is permitted to leave the chamber between the oil pipe 1 and pipe section 6 through ports 10 in the wall 3, said air or steam after passing through the ports entering the chamber'll of a collar 12, said collar having a head 13 at its outer end through which is formed an opening 14, the wall of which is tapered coincident to the taper of the nozzle 2, and by providing threads interiorly of the end of the collar and exteriorly of the sleeve 4, the head may be adjusted outwardly or inwardly to increase or decrease the -space between the beveled walls of the head and nozzle, thereby increasing or decreasing the size of the fiame at the end of the nozzle.
The nozzle is so arranged as to project beyond the outer end of the head 13 so that the flame will always be beyond the head, .thereby eliminating any possibility of carbonization within the head and thus leaving a free passage for the air or steam.
h It will likewise be seen that by emitting the air or steam in the rear of the end of the nozzle, suction will be created in the oil pipe to cause the oil to properly feed regardless of the consistency of the oil.
It will likewise be seen that the burner can be very cheaply constructed, and in View of the fact that the size of the flame can be increased or decreased, it can be used with stoves, furnaces or fire boxes of various sizes.
