GEORGE ALPHA MILHOLLAND, OF .[.ll".lSl3ll.lt(1, PENNSYLVANIA, AHSHINOH OF ONE-HALF TO LAWRENCE CLARK GRAY, ()F PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANlA.
EXTENSION CURTAIN-HOLDER AND BRACKET.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE ALPHA hIlIL- HOLLAND, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Extension Curtain- Holders and Brackets, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to a curtain support for window frames, and the primary object of my invention is to provide a movable support that can be easily swung into position for side draping of curtains from an. ordinary curtain pole or rod used in connection with a window-frame.
Another object of my invention is to provide a simple, durable and inexpensive curtain retainer that will occupy an inconspicuous place upon a window-frame, and will not be visible ordinarily when the same is not in use.
With the above and other objects in view which will more readily appear as the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed.
Referring to the drawings :Figure 1 is a front elevation of a window-frame equipped with my supports, Fig. 2 is a s de elevation of the same, Fig. 3 is a similar view illustrating the curtain support in an inactive position, Fig. 4 is an enlarged longitudinal sectional view of a portion of one of the supports, and Fig. 5 is an enlarged elevation of one of the su ports.
11 the accompanying drawings, 1 designates a window-frame provided with a curtain pole or red 2 for supporting curtains or draperies 3.
Secured to the outer edges of the frame 1 adjacent to the bottom sash 4 of the windowframe are plates 5, each plate having a right angular flange or extension 6, the object of which will presently appear.
Each plate is provided with a pivot pin 7 for a head 8, said head having a triangular extension 9 and a tube 10, said tube being arranged at right angles to the triangular extension 9, whereby when said extension engages the flange 6, the tube 10 will be maintained at right angles to said flange and to the Window-frame 1.
Adjustably mounted in each of the tubes Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 16, 190B.
Patented June 22, 1909.
Serial No. 458,018.
1.0 is a shiftable rod 11 having the outer end thereof provided with a knob 12 or similar, ornamentation.
Vith the tube and rod in the position shown in full lines in Fig. 5 of the drawings, also in Figs. 1 and 2, the curtains or draperies 3 can be drawn to one side and hung over said tube and rod. hen the curtains or draperies are to be closed and not drawn to one side, the tube 10 and the rod 11 can be swung upwardly to a vertical position to rest against the wall. This inactive position of the tube 1.0 and rod 11 is shown clearly in Fig. 3 of the drawings.
My curtain support is made of light and durable metal and is finished to present a neat appearance.
While in the drawings forming a part of this application there is illustrated the preferred embodiments of my invention, the detail construction thereof can be varied or changed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having now described my invention what I claim as new, is z- 1. A curtain support comprising a plate adapted to be secured .in proximity to the edge of a window-frame, and provided with a vertically extending flange arranged at right angles with respect to the plate, a head pivotally secured to the plate and formed with a triangular extension, a tube carried by said head and projecting at right angles with respect to said extension, said tube capable of being shifted from a horizontal to a vertical position, said flange and extension constituting a stop for the tube when the latter is moved to a horizontal position, and a rod adjustably mounted in said tube.
2. A curtain support comprising a plate adapted to be secured in proximity to a window-frame and provided with a flange, a head pivoted on the frame, and formed with an extension, a tube carried by the head and arranged at right angles with respect to said extension, said flange and extension constituting a stop for the rod when moving to a horizontal position, and a rod shiftably mounted in said tube.
In testimony whereof I allix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE ALPHA MILHOLLAND.
