G. M. HUBBARD.
GURRYGOMB. APPLICATION FILED FEB. 19, 1909,

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE M. HUBBARD, OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE W. & E. T. FITCH 00., OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT, A CORPORATION.
CURRYCOMB Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 22, 1909.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE M. HUBBARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Currycombs; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in
Figure 1 a plan view of a curry comb constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 an edge view of the same. Fig. 3 a plan view of part of one of the sections showing the scalloped edge and the lines on which it is corrugated.
This invention relates to an improvement in curry combs, and particularly to that class which are struck up from sheet metal and the teeth formed by scalloping and corrugating the edges of the metal.
The object of this invention is to construct a comb in which each corrugation forms a tooth; and the invention consists in the construction hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claim.
As shown in the drawings the comb is made up of three sections 2, 3 and 4, each struck up from sheet metal oval in general form, each section being cup-shaped and the edge scalloped and corrugated. These sections are secured together by rivets 5. The comb is also provided with the usual handle 6 which may be attached in any desired manner. As before stated the edge of each section is scalloped, and the edge is also corrugated, and these corrugations are so arranged that the central portion of each corrugation is in line with the highest point of each scallop. In other words, every other scallo is turned out, while the intermediate scal ops are turned in. Thus as shown the alternate scallops 7 are turned inward, while the intermediate scallops 8 are turned outward. Thus each scallop forms a tooth, and half of them are in position to operate when the comb is moved in one direction and the other half when the comb is moved in the opposite direction. Thus by having the edge so corrugated that the center of the corrugation registers with the center of the scallop the maximum amount of efliciency of the teeth is obtained. In corrugating the sections care must be used in order that the corrugations shall register with the scallops, but by producing a comb in which the corrugations register with the scallops, the operative surface of the comb is increased over one in which the corrugations and scallops do not register.
I claim A curry comb comprising a cup-shaped section having its edge scalloped and corrugated, the central line of each corrugation registering with the central line of a scallop.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GEORGE M. HUBBARD.
