Letters Patent No. 92,2
7S, dated July 6, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT IN MEDICINE-SPOON AND BOTTLE-STOPPER commun.
'.l'he Schedule refenled to in these Letters Patent and making part of the lame.
To all whom it may concer-a: l
Be it known that I, SUSAN C. CURRIE, of the city of New York, in the county and State of New York,
have invented a new and improved Medicine-Spoon;
and I do hereby declare that thefollowing is a full,v
clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming p'art of this specification This invention relates to new and useful improvements in spoons, 'whereby it is designed to provide a spoon suitably adaptedfor administering,r medicine,
having an attachment' for connection tothe cork of the medicine-bottle, serving both as a cork-screw or drawer, and for supporting the spoon in a conspicuous position, where it will he readily noticed when wanted, and be prevented from being misplaced, all as hereinafter more fully specified. y
The drawing represents a perspective view of my improved spoon, attached to the cork of a bottle.
The bowl A, which is similar in shape and construction to ordinary spoons, is provided with. a pointed and screwed projection, B, extending from the bottom. To this is appliedv a screw-nut, C.
This projection may be screwed through the cork of the ,niedicine-botile for drawing it, after which the nut O- may be screwed on, to permanently hold the l cork for drawing it out, asis frequently required, whilf' the medicine is administered..
This cork also serves as a handle for the spoon. Tile said extension may, if preferred, be bent into the spiral form of a common cork-screw, so as to draw the cork without the use' of the nut. r
' W'hilc 1 prefer to connect the said extension to the bottom, it may, if desired, be connectedy to the part where the handles are ordinarily connected. Y I propose, in some cases,'to enlarge these projections sutliciently to form the corks'ot' the hottlesand to make the spoons and projections of India rubber, hard vulcanized, or of glass; but they may also be made 'of metal, or other suitable substance; Having` thus describcdxny invention, y. ,I What I claim as new, and desire toA secure/by 'Let'- ters Patent, is f A medicine-spoon, provided with a projection ,upon
its under side, by which it is adapted to be applied to the cork of a medicine-bottle,'substantially as specitied.
' The above specilicati'on'signed .by me, this 25th day l of May, 1869.
