Description
March 27, 1951 R. LUSTIG ET AL MEDIcxNE sPooN HOLDER Filed Feb. 6, 1948 Rif/P L Ufff Patented Mar. 27, 1951 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE MEDICINE SPOON HGLDER Robert Lustig and Hana Lustig, New York, N. Y.
Application February 6, 1948, Serial No. 6,646
(Cl. Z50-327) 1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to a medicine spoon holder.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a medicine spoon holder whereby a medicine spoon can be supported in such a manner that medicine can be poured therein without the use of the hand other than the hand which is used for pouring from a bottle into the spoon as at times when the other hand is being put to use for another purpose and wherein the spoon will remain in place until the same can be grasped by the end and lifted to serve its contents to a patient, or to ring a bell combined with said holder.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a medicine spoon holder which is of simple construction, easy to make, inexpensive, sturdy and adapted to provide adequate support for a spoon, convenient to use and eicient in operation.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. l is a perspective view of the holder with spoon thereon and the holder supported on a table and with the same being lled by the contents frorn a bottle which is being poured by a person who has only one hand free.
Fig. 2 is a collective view inelevation, showing the holder partly in section and the spoon elevated 5 from the same to remove the projection on the bottom of the handle from the holder and to free the spoon for use.
Referring now to the figures, I represents the holder embodying the features of the present invention and li represents a spoon especially formed for use with the holder. The holder has a base il adapted to rest on a table and an upwardly extending portion l2 which is closed at its top to provide a flat surface i3 on which may be rested spoon Il and which has a hole I4 into which a depending projection l5 of the spoon may be extended to conne and cause the spoon to be supported in such a manner that it will lie horizontally and in such a manner as to receive contents being poured from a bottle I6 by hand ll of a person i8 who has her hand or arm I9 occupied with the holding of an infant 2|. The holder I0 is supported upon a flat surface 22 of a table.
The base I!) is so shaped as to be narrow at the top and is formed of pressed material so as to provide a space 23 in the bottom thereof in which can be dangled a bell striker 24. The upper end of the striker can be fastened into a narrowed portion 25 and the portion l2 can serve as a handle by which the bell striker can be caused to engage with the base Il whereby to impart a musical ringing note whereby to effect a call for service.
The projection t5 is made adequately long so that there is little opportunity for the spoon to separate from the holder.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claim.
Having thus set forth and disclosed the nature of our invention, what is claimed'is:
A combined medicine spoon and support, cornprisng a medicine spoon, having a contents receving portion and a handle portion extending at an angle therefrom, said handle portion having a depending projection thereon which extends at an acute angle toward the contents receiving portion, a support having a top portion with a vertically extending opening therein of substantially the size of the projection of the handle and adapted to receiving said projection, said projection and said opening in the support lying at an angle to the spoon handle when said spoon is in a supported position, whereby the contents receiving portion of the spoon will lie horizontally.
