Be it known that I, THOMAS T. HUToHIN- soN, of the city of Newark,'in the county of ing cigarettes and particularly to the igniting tip upon the end of such cigarettes.

In accordance with thepresent invention, the cigarette is provided with recesses, holes or perforations in the tip itself and also just back of the tip in the paper of the cigarette if desired.
The invention will be more fully described in connection with the accompanying drawing in which the figure is a view in perspective of the cigarette in which the improvements have been embodied.
As shown in the drawing, the igniting tip 9 isprovided with a perforation 0 near the center of the tip, which may or may not extend entirely through the same, and with perfora- One tions n just back of the tip in the paper of the cigarette, whereby the fumes formed by the burning of the tip may escape and may not therefore be liable to permeate the cigarette itself and to be drawn back into the mouth of the smoker. These perforations may obviously be formed in different ways and may be provided wholly in the tip or in the periphery of the cigarette, although it is preferable to.

I claim as my invention:
1. A cigarette having an ignition tip with a recess therein forthe purpose specified.
2. A cigarette having an ignition tip and perforations just back of the tip for the pur' pose specified.
3. A cigarette having an ignition strip extending completely over the end of the cigarette, perforations around the cigarette just back of the tip, and a perforation near the center of the tip.v
