NAPOLEON DU BRUL, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
CIGAR OR CIGARETTE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 651,108, dated June 5, 1900.
Application filed August 14:. 1899. Serial No. 727,230. (No model.)
To to whom it Hwy concern.-
Be it known that I, NAPOLEON DU BRUL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigars or Cigarettes, of which the following is a specification.
Myinvention relates to an improvement in the formation of the ends of cigars and cigarettes; and my object is to provide cigars and cigarettes with a machine cut, beveled, and creased end of an improved and peculiar construction which will have the advantage of preventing the filler or filling from dropping out atthe ends, as well as having the filler or filling compressed at the ends, so as to render the same compact at these points.
My improvement consists in the construction of cigars or cigarettes, as hereinafter described and claimed.
In order that my invent-ion may be fully understood, I will proceed to describe it with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure I is a side View of a cylindrical cigar constructed with machine cut, beveled, creased, and compressed ends in accordance with my invention. Fig. II is a side view of ashaped cigar, showing my invention applied thereto. Fig. III is a side view of a cheroot, showing the same applied thereto. Fig. IV is the side View of a stogy provided with my machine cut, beveled, creased, and compressed ends. Fig.Vis a side view of a paper or all-tobacco cigarette, showing such an article provided with my improvement. Fig. VI is a detail end view of a cigar or cigarette. Fig. VII is a detail axial section of the end of a cigar or cigarette.
1 is the cylindrical body of a cigar.
1 is the shaped body of a cigar.
1 is the tapering body of a cheroot.
1 is the long cylindrical body of a stogy,
and 1 is the body of a paper-wrapped or alltobacco cigarette. 2 is the filler orfilling, which has compressed ends 2 3 represents the ends of a suitable wrapper cut, beveled, creased, and compressed by means of my improved cutter, which is the subject-matter of my copendiu g application filed August 14, 1899, Serial No. 727,229. 3 is the circumferential bevel formed by the said outter, which compresses the ends 2 of the filler or filling when the ends of the cigar or cigarette are cut. The cutting of the cigars or cigarettes by my cutter produces ends of frusto-conical shape having creases or recesses 3 and serrations or projections 3, which are approximately V-shaped.
By the provision of the machine cut and compressed frusto-conical-shaped open ends the tobacco filler or filling is prevented from dropping out, and it also provides a protection to the edges of the wrapper, and the injuring of the edge in packing and handling is avoided. This construction of machinecut frusto-conical-shaped end also prevents, to a certain extent, the liability of drawing the filler or filling into the mouth of the smoker as the cigar or cigarette is lighted, and it furthermore imparts to the cigar or cigarette a tendency to light and burn more uniformly.
Having thus described my invention, the following is whatI claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
A cigar, or cigarette, cut, beveled, creased, and compressed, so as to provide a trimmed frusto-conical open end; the compressing of said end rendering the filler or filling compact and preventing it from falling out.
