Description

A. B. CITROEN. Cigarette Mouth-Piece.
, No. 205,475 Patented July 2,1878.
Wj'tn ewes: Inventor:
41M I13, CTR m if A w Mnm UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ABRAHAM B. CITROEN, OF BERLIN, PRUSSIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN CIGARETTE MOUTH-PIECES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 205,475. dated July 2, 1878; application filed May 15, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ABRAHAM B. CITROEN, of Berlin, Prussia, have invented a new and Improved Cigarette Mouth-Piece, of which the following is a specification:
Figure l is a side view of acigarette having myimproved mouth-piece. Fig. 2 is a central section thereof. Fig. 3 is a central section of a modification of the mouth-piece.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts in all the figures.
This invention relates to a new glass mouthpiece for cigarettes; and has for its object to produce a cleanly mouth-piece, which will not be bent out of shape by the smoker, and which will at the same time prevent the nicotine and small particles of tobacco from entering the mouth of the smoker.
My improved mouthpiece consists of a glass tube of which the inner end is contracted, leaving a verysmall aperture, while the other outer end is made with rounded edge. This tube is inserted into the cigarette, and the paper covering partly put round the same, in such manner that the contracted end, having small opening, is in contact with the tobacco.
In the drawing, the letter A represents the glass mouth-piece; B, the paper covering of the cigarette, and O the tobacco filling.
The inner end a of the mouth-piece is contracted, leaving a very small opening, just large enough for the passage of smoke and air, but too small to permit particles of tobacco from finding their way through the same spontaneously.
The outer end I) of the mouth-piece has rounded edge, as clearly indicated in Fig. 1, but may, if desired, also be contracted, as shown in Fig. 3.
The smoke will readily be drawn through the aperture in the contracted inner end a of the mouthpiece, while the nicotine will be condensed along the inner walls of the glass mouth-piece before it is possible for this poison to enter the smokers mouth.
The outer face of the tube is left smooth, and not provided with the customary kerb to prevent the smoker from biting and crushing the glass tube, obliging him to hold it between his lips.
I claim- The glass cigarette mouth-piece A, made of cylindrical form, and with the hole at the inner end a contracted, and having a rounded outer end, b, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
This specification signed by me this the 20th day of April, 1878.
ABRAHAM B. CITROEN.
