ATTORNEY nn'rrsn erases PATENT JOHN SKLAR, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
ECRASEUR OR CASTEATING INSTRUMENT.
Patented May 18, 1909.
Serial No. 457,105.
Be it known that 1, JOHN SKLAR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented new and useful l m provements in Ecraseurs or Castrating Tn struments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a device for castrating animals as for example horses and the device of this invention can be rapidly ad justed and assembled or dismounted.
This invention is set forth in the following specification and claim and illustrated in the annexed drawing in which:-
Figure 1 is a plan view of a castrating instrument or device embodying this invention. Fig. 12 is a central longitudinal section of i 1. 3 is an enlarged view of parts of Fig. and in a different position than in Fig. 2. Fig. l is a section along 9; cc Fig. 3. Fig. 5 shows the holder or engaging means of the loop or chain cutter in releasing position.
in this drawing is shown a handle a with a mouth portion Z). Through the mouth passes a flexible cutter or shearing portion 0. The ends of the loop or chain c are held or engaged hy a traveler The handle is tubular and slotted to allow the traveler to be seated in the handle while a part of the traveler such as the screw stem 6 projects out through the slot. This screw stem c forms part of or is secured to a sleeve or female portion f into which passes an actuator or male screw in form of a rod which can rotate but not move longitudinally. The female screw or sleeve f has a threaded portion and an unthreaded portion.
Vi hen the screw or thumb nut h is tightened the screw or threaded part of sleeve f is drawn into engagement with the actuator or stem 9 and the rotation of such actuator in a certain direction will then cause move ment of the traveler or actuation of the cutter 0.
If the nut h is loosened and the sleeve f pressed to throw its threaded part out of engagement and bring its plain or unthreaded part to the actuator g the traveler can he rapidly slid by hand along the handle a to free or adjust the cutter or ecraseur portion 0.
The traveler d has eyes or sleeves at each side of the female screw eyef to act as bracing or stiffening means or the actuator g passing therethrough. This actuator its inner end sits against the handle a and an annular groove at the outer end portion of the actuator screw 9 is engaged by one or more studs or screws i in the cap is screwed or secured to the handle or tube a.
The loop a has its ends seated or held. in depressions or seats in the traveler (Z and held therein by a securing plate m having a key hole slot to engage headed stud a on the traveler. The plate can be grasped by its handle button 0 and freedfiom stud n and then swung about stem e to free the chain loop 0 so that the same can be dismounted tier cleaning or other purposes.
The operation of the device is as follows: The pouch of the animal to be operated on is passed into the loop 0 and the traveler d slid along until the loop firmly clasps tne pouch. Then the screw 7b is tightened to engage the female thread f to the male thread g and the latter is then rotated by its handle or cross piece to cause the loop 0 to remove the pouch. The article can then be dismounted for cleaning or disint v hat I claim is A device of the kind described comprisi a handle with a mouth portion, a llexible cutter or shearing portion, a traveler for moving the flexible shearing portion, and an actuating screw for the traveler, said traveler having an eye with a threaded portion and a screw for holding the threaded portion to and allowing it to be freed from the actuating screw.
In testimony whereof I have l'iercunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
