Beit known that I, JOHN H. JnNNrsoN, of Great Bend, in the county ol' Barton, State oll Kansas, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Corner-Shields, 'lor which, so far as I know, no patents have been granted in any country.

This invention relates to corner shields Yfor stair steps, for the corners of rooms and 'lor other places from which it is desired to eX- clude dust and dirt; and the invention has 'l'or its object to provide a corner shield otk simple and improved construction, which may be readily applied in the desired osition, and which will not only serve to exc ude dust and impurities from the corner protected thereby, but which will also facilitate sweeping and cleansing and thus promote cleanliness and sanitation.

A further object of the inventionis to simplil'y and improve the construction ol' the shield. l

Vllith these and other ends in view which will readily appear as the nature ol' the invention is better understood, the same consists in the improved construction and novel arrangement and combination of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawing has been illustrated a simple and preferred form ol' the invention; it being, however, understood that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise structural details therein eX- hibited, but that changes, alterations and modiiications within the scope of the invention may be resorted to when desired.

In the drawing-Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the improved shield applied in position for operation. Fig. 2- is a perspective detail view of one of the members or sections of which the shield'is composed. Fig. 3 is a view in elevation of one of the sides ol' the corner shield.

In its preferred form the improved shield is made oil wood and is composed oi' three members or sections l, 2, and 3, each member being an irregular quadrangular pyramid with a concave base.

It will be seen that when the three members are assembled as in Fig. l, they will Specification of Letters Patent.

combine to l'orm a triangular pyramid with a concave base. Such pyramid may be fitted closely into any corner formed by three walls located at right angles to one another, and the concave base will be presented in an outward direction; the block or shield will thus prevent dust and impurities from entering into the corner, and the exposed concave base will facilitate sweeping, and enable all dust and impurities to be conveniently collected.

The several sections or members may be conveniently cut from sticks or pieces oll wood oi comparatively small dimensions, and it is obvious that by so cutting or forming them, the grain o'll the wood will run lengthwise through the several sections or members, toward the vortex oi' the pyramid or in the direction ol' the greatest dimensions. Con sequently when the several members are assembled to Iorm a corner shield the grain in said members will run toward the center o'l' the triangle or base formed by such asseme bling. By this arrangement it is obvious that splitting is prevented, and a durable and ei'licient article is provided.

The several members may be assembled and held together by glue or adhesive cement of any kind, and glue and cement may likewise be employed for securing the shield in position for operation.

The improved'corner shield when applied to a wooden stairway, adjacent to wooden walls of any kind, will have every appearance of being an integral p art ol such stair or walls.

The members composing the improved shield may be of any desired dimensions and the corner shield may be used not only for the corners of stairs and rooms, but in the corners of oces and wherever it shall be desired to have a neat joint protected from dust and the like.

The improved corner shield may be constructed and applied at a trilling expense, and it will be found to be thoroughly efficient for the purposes for which it is provided.

By constructing the corner shield in the manner herein described, of a plurality ol' pieces glued or cemented together, the improved shield may be made at much less expense than ii made in a single piece, since less perfect and expensive stock may be utilized,
