WINDOW-v-PANE-SECURING STRIP.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it vknown that I, WILLIAM E. Ross, a citizen of the United States, residing at Duquoin, in the county of Perry, State 0f Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in IVindow-Pane-Securing Strips; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to window pane securing strips, and has particular reference to one which may be made from a single piece of metal, and may be so folded that the same will hold a pane of glass securely within the sash.

A further object of the invention is to construct a device of this character formed entirely from a single piece of sheet metal, and one which may be cheaply manufactured, and easily attached to or detached from the frame when it is desired to remove a broken pane and replace an unbroken one.

In the drawing F igure 1 is a face view of a window sash, showing the strip in place. Fig. 2 is a sectional view on line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of one corner of the strip, showing the manner in which it is folded. Fig. 4 is a plan view of the blank before being folded. Fig. 5 is a view showing the corner of the strip with the meeting ends in position.

Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates the usual sash frame and 2 the rabbet. The strip 3 proper consists of sheet metal and is so folded as to provide a perpendicular longitudinal wall 4L and a longitudinal base 5, said base terminating in an upwardly inclined wall 6, said wall being provided along its edge with a plurality of integral ears 7 each of said ears being provided with an opening 8, and through which screws are passed to attach the strip in its entirety to the rabbet 2, and in contact with the window pane 9, to firmly hold the same in its proper position within the sash.

The strip 3 before folding has its base 5 and inclined wall 6 formed with oppositely disposed beveled edges 10 and 11 respectively, by cutting the blankk at these points with a suitable cutting die. In manufac- Specication of Letters Patent.

turing the strips the same are formed with three sets of oppositely disposed beveled edges, thereby providing a top section 12 and a bottom section 13 and side sections 14; so that when said strip is folded the beveled edges allow the same to` interlock at the four corners of the sash. It will' be noted that when the strip is cut in this' manner the beveled edges are produced so that the eX- treme ends thereof will be detached, so that when the same is folded 'at these points a miter oint is formed, which not only allows the strip to conform to the rectangular shape of the window frame, but furnishes a neat appearance. The strips may then be japanned or coated to represent the finish of the sash frame.

It will be noted that one end of the strip is provided with a straight edge 15 and that the other end has its base 5 and inclined wall 6 formed with beveled edges 16 and 17 respectively, and the perpendicular wall 4: is provided with a short extension 18, so that when the strip is folded the extension 18 will be positioned in contact with the straight edge 15, and the beveled edges 16 and 17 will form in eect a seat for the reception of the base 5 and inclined wall 6, and producing a neat miter joint at this point of connection.

When it is desired to remove a broken pane the strip 3 may be easily and conveniently removed by the loosening of the screws 8 and the whole strip removed and a new pane positioned within the sash, and the stripis then placed in position in the frame so that the base 5 bears upon the pane 9. and the ears 7 of the inclined wall 6 are fastened to the rabbet 2, which causes the wall 4 to bindingly contact with the inner face of the rabbet 2, thereby securely holding the pane in place.
