Description

S. G. MASON.
. Inventor: WW MM Smmwl (.Mason,
SAMUEL G. MASON, OF SALEM,
MASSA OHUSETTS FORM.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed. July 20, 1908.
Patented May 11, 1909.
Serial no. 4%,519.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL 0. Mason, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Salem, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Forms, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to forms for boots and shoes and is particularly adapted for that class of forms sometimes known as filler lasts, which are used in connection with finished shoes.
The object of the present invention is to provide a form which may be readily divided by a band saw or similar device, cutting the forepart from the heel portion at the instep in an irregular or waved vertical line and pivoting the two parts together at a point substantially midway between the instep and the bottom of the form, the upper projecting portion of the forepart being chamiered ofi sufficiently to permit a slight movement about said pivot while the heel part is rovided with a depression therein which limits the movement of said forepart about said pivot.
The invention consists of certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts which will be readily understood by reference to the description of the drawings and to the claims hereinafter given.
Of the drawings: Figure 1 represents a plan of a form embodying the features of this invention. Fig. 2 represents a side elevation of the same. Fig. 3 represents an inverted plan of the same, and Fig. 4 represents a longitudinal vertical section of the same.
Similar characters designate like parts throughout the several figures of the drawings.
In the drawings, 10 represents a heel portion of a form while 11 represents the forebeing divided on a curved irregular or waved vertical line 12, this dividing out being adapted to be made by means of the usual band saw or any other similar device. In dividing the form in this manner it is always designed to make the center of one of the rear curves, as, for instance, 13, at the instep or comb of the form while on either side thereof will be the forwardly extending members 14 and 15 which will be adapted to receive the pivot pin 16 passing through the forepart as shown in Fig. 1. The extension 17 of the forepart interposed between the forwardly extending portions 14 and 15 of the heel part is chamfered off slightly as indicated at 18 to permit the forepart to have a slight movement about the pivot pin 16, the heel part being provided with a suitable depression 19 therein, the inner wall 20 of which is adapted to limit the movement of the forepart about said pivot. This makes a very cheap construction of form as the division between the forepart and the heel part may be quickly made, and requires but very little further operation thereon to complete the same, ready for use.
It is believed that the many advantages of a form constructed as herein described and claimed will be fully apparent without any further description.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim:
1. A form divided into two arts at the instep by a substantially vertica waved line extending from top to bottom, said parts being pivotally connected together.
2. A form divided into two parts at the instep by a substantially vertical irregular line extending from top to bottom, said parts being pivotally connected together.
3. A form divided into two parts at the instep by a vertical waved line extending from top to bottom, and a pin extending through the projections formed by said dividing cut for pivotally connecting said parts together.
4. A form divided into two parts at the instep by a waved line extending from top to bottom, the projections on said parts part or toe portion of the same, the two parts 5 formed by said dividing out being pivot'ally connected together substantially midway of the top and bottom.
5. A form divided into two parts at the instep by a waved line extending from top to bottom, the projections on said parts formed by said dividing out being pivotally connected together and the upward extenl heel part limiting the movement of the sion of the forepart being chamfered off to forepart about said pivot. 10 permit limited movement about said pivot. Signed by me at 7 Water st., Boston,
6. A form divided into two parts at the g Mass, this 15th day of July, 1908. instep and pivotally connected together SAMUEL C. MASON.
by said dividing out, an extension on the EDNA C. CLEVELAND,
through the projections 011 said parts formed Witnesses:
comb of the forepart, and a shoulder on the i NATHAN O. LOMBARD.
