CARD-CASE.
Specification of Letters Patent Patented May 1 1, 1909.
Application filed November 23, 1908. Serial No. 46 L155.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES F. BROWN a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, borough of Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York, have informing a part of the card case in such a way that the cards may be readily inserted or removed from the case one or more at a time, thus overcoming the objections'incident to placing cards loose in the pocket and also avoidlng the necessity for holding the cards in a more or less inexpensive coni tainer.
A further object of the invention is to provide a case which is so constructed and of such a material that it may be given away with a number of cards, and which may also serve for advertising purposes.
With these and other objects in View the invention will be hereinafter more particu larly described with reference to the accompanying drawings which form apart of this specification, and will then be pointed out in the claims at the end of the description.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of the cover with its stiffening members be fore the cover has been folded over. Fig. 2
shows the case with its edges infolded over '1 the stifiening members. Fig. 3 is a perspective View of the case somewhat enlarged, showing the position of the parts be,- 'fore the detachable cards are placed therein. Fig. 4: is a detail plan view, partly in section, showing the clamping member of the case; and Fig. 5 is a plan view showing how a number of cards may be held in the case.
The cover comprises a part or member 11 which may be of thin material as paper representing leather, and suitably held to the cover by pasting or otherwise are the stiffening cards or members 12', one on each side thereof, and spaced apart so as to leave a flexible intermediate portion 13 between the same, and said cover member 11 is adapted to be infolded over upon the stijfening members 12 as shown best in Fig. 2, the whole being constructed of any suitable material.
A clamping member 14 may be made by bending a card 15 so as to have one side or part, as 16, extending outward along the inner side of the case so as to be cemented thereto at one or more points, and another part, as at 18, bent at an angle to the portion 16, which part 18 is cemented or otherwise held along the flexible part 13 of the cover so .as to stiffen the same, and has a partor flexing side 19 which normally extends inwardly toward the member 15. Said card 15 may contain advertising matter along one face thereof, as at 17, and said part 18 forms a connecting member between the parts 16 and 19. At the point 20 may be arranged an elastic band 21 of rubber or the like, and this band extends lengthwise of the. member 14 so as to normally force and hold the side 19 yieldingly toward theside 16 to adapt a number of cards to be forced in the space between the flexing or clamping side 19 and side 16, in such a way that the same may be readily removed one or more at a time as desired. To the inner surface of the flexing or clamping side 19 is secured oneend of a thin paper or other strip 22 which is adapted to lie against the outer surface of the side 19 when the parts of the case are assembled, and. fastened to one end of the strip 22 is a sheet 23 of thin paper or other material which is adapted to be cemented or held against one face of the case over one of the stiffening members 12 and serves to hold the side 19 flexibly to the cover. As will be seen the cards 24 for visit-ing or of any other nature may be placed between the clamping side 19 and the side 16 of the case, and by reason of the elastic band 21. the cards will be clamped between said sides so that the same may be readily removed, and the whole when thus made provides a neat and cheaply constructed case or pack age for the cards.
While thecase is shown as constructed of a number of parts some of the same may be dispensed with, and instead of the case being made entirely of paper it may be made of other material if so desired, and advertising or other matter may be placed upon the inner surface and also the outer surface thereof it found desirable.
From the foregoing it will be seen that a simple and efficient case is provided which is adapted to hold a number of cards; that said case has a clamping part or member Which may be readily made to form a part of the case and is adapted to properly clamp and hold cards or other objects bet-ween the cover members of the case, and that said card case may be so made as to permit it to be given away with a number of cards and on which advertising or other matter may be placed.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A case comprising a cover, a clamping member having two sides and a connecting 'member held to said cover, and an elastic member normally forcing one side 01": the clamping member toward the opposite side thereof.
2. A device of the character described, comprising a cover formed of thin material and provided with two stiffening members spaced apart leaving a flexible intermediate portion, a clamping member having two sides and aconnecting member held to the cover and providing a space for the ends of the objects to be held, an elastic element normally forcing one side of the clamping member toward one side of the cover, a strip serving to cover one part of the elastic element and one side of the clamping member, and a sheet of paper secured to said strip and to one side of the cover over one of the stiffening members. 7
3. A device of the character described, comprising a cover formed of thin material and provided with two stilfening members spaced apart leaving a flexible intermediate portion, a clamping member having two sides and aconnecting member held to the cover and providing a space for the ends of the objects to be held, and means for ii'oreing the two sides of the chimping member together.
l. A device of the character describtal,
comprising a cover, a, clamping); member having two sides and a eonnectimg; member held to the cover and providing a space for the ends of the objects to be held and an elastic band surrounding the clann iing member and normally forcing the two sides thereof toward each other.
5. A device of the character described, comprising' a cover, a clamping member having two sides and a connecting member held to the cover, an elastic element normally forcing the sides of the clamping na-anber toward each other, a strip serving to cover one part of the elastic element and the clamping member, and a sheet of pager secured to said strip and to one side of the cover.
ti. A device of the character described, comprising a cover formed of thin material and provided with two stili'ening parts spaced apart leaving an intermediate tlexiblc portion, a clamping member having two sides and a connecting member held to the cover, an elastic element normally it'orcing the sides of the clamping member toward each other, and means flexibly connecting one side of the clamping member to the cover.
7. EL device of the character described, comprising a cover, a elamning member ha ving two sides and a connecting member held to the cover, an elastic element normally forcing the sides of the clamping member toward azch other, and means flexibly connecting one side of the clamping member to the cov This specification signed and witnessed this 21st day of November A.
