BABY-JUM ER.
Specification of Letters I'atnt.
Patented May 11, 1969.
Application filed September so, 1908. Seria1No.455,51"7.
To-a ll whom it may-cnce1'n: D Be it known that I, ARCHIE E. AYERS, a
. citizen-of the United States, residing at Seat.-
'tle in the county'of King and State of Washington, have invented certainnew and useful Improvements in Baby-Jumpers, of which the following is a specification.,
This invention has for its object-the irn provement in baby-jumpers to insure'the safe holding and comfort of a'child, and also enable the occupant to have the freedom of his limbs for exercising purposes.
The invention, generally stated, consists I in the employment of a peculiarly formed and adjustable sling'which is hung by four lines other suitable flexible material, and, as
shown in Fig. 3, is formed with a relatively narrow central portion-,6 andtwobroader end portions 7 and 8. Upon thefend por tions and in proximity of each of their lateral edges is secureda ring 9 and near'two of the corners are buckles 10 for'pierced straps 10 which. are secured. near. the remaining corners of the sling fabric. Such piece of fabric is folded at about its mid-length to forma sling, as represented in Fig. .1,-. and the ends thereof connected in overlapped condition by adjustably buckling said strapsiaecording to the girth of a, child. It is then seen that the sling has two openings iii-the. girth, one upon each side, rendering it easy; of adjustmerit and allowing the child tobe put into or removed from the sling at-the side manipulating a single strap. I
1 1 represent lines for suspending the sling and are formed "of two ieces which are. crossed over a plate 12 an have snap hooks .13 at their-ends for detachably engaging the sling-rings 9. The plate '12 is comprised of arectangular sheet of metal, or an equivalent,
having its corners turned downwardlyto furnish depending ears 12 against whlch sa d lines are secured byfr'rvets; 14, as shown in Fig. 2. Connected centrally of the plate isa swivel 15 having an upwardly projecting eye 15 for making connection to a chain. 16 which is hooked to an extensible spring 17.
As is evident, the height of the sling may beadjusted by hooking the chain to the spring from various of its links. A hoop 18 is; employed. between the plate 12 and the sling and to which are secured at equidistances apart, as -by' screws or. rivets 19, the
aforesai lines 11 In order, however, to carry thesling by a distending-lik'e support,
. the hoop is locatedat a short distance above the slin-g'and by such contrivance the hoop likewise serves to prevent a child which may from encountering a be carried in-the slin houldthe sling be un- Wall or other object s duly swung.
In 6 eration,a child is placed in the sling by un 'uckling one of] the straps 10- and when-the latter is re-secured .the height-is adjusted so that the occupants feet will touch the floor by lengthening or shortening the chain connection between the s ring and theline supporting plate. The ch d is then free to jumpor swing Without danger. of col liding with obstacles, and-.may'rotat'e with out twisting or winding up. the lines or chain connections. v I
-Having described my invention, what I" claim, is, y -1."In.' a baby-jumper, the combination with the sling which is open'able upon each -side,"a."strap, andlbnckleconnectionfor securing such sides in closed condition, and;
' -rin'gs connected with-the sling, 'of a pl: .t.'e,
two crossed linessecu-red; to the late, snap, hooks in the ends of 'said.'lines or making connection with said ringaa hoop connected to said lines in proximity to the sling, an ex-v ten'sible' spring, a-chain depending from the spring, and a swivel connection betweenthe' chain and said plate. I 2. In a babyumper, in combinationwith with thelspring, a sling, two crossed lines adapted to afford four extremities, and means for detachably connecting.- such Iextrernities tosaid sling-of a rectangular. plate provided with depending ears for supporting said lines at the lace of crossing, 211M an adjustable connection between the plate andthe spring p ARCHIE E.
