FRANK R. .l-AOKSON, OFOBERLIN, OHIO, ASSIGN OR O=F ONE-HALF TO FLAVIUS L. ROWELL, O'F OBERLIN, OHIO.
HOLDER FOR MAIL-MATTER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK R. JACKSON, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Ober- H11, in the county of Lorain and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Holders for Mail-Matter, of which the followin is a specification.
My invention re ates to improvements in holders for mail matter, the primary object of the invention being to provide a simple device of this class, for securing and supportin mail matter, which may. be readily attache to a post, wall, or other suitable and convenient place where it is desired to place a letter, newspaper, package, or the like.
The invention is also designed for use as an advertising novelty, the base plate or body of the device being designed for carrying and conspicuously displaying any suitable advertisement.
With these ends in view, the invention consistsin the novel construction, arrangement, and the combination of parts hereinafter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and particularly pointed out in the ap ended claim.
eferring to the drawings, forming a part of this specification Figure 1, is a front view of the improved holder. Fig. 2, a rear or back view of the same. Fig. 3, a side or edge view of the same. Fig. 4, a erspective view of the improved article 0 ampin and supporting-spring member detache from the base supporting-plate or body of the holder.
Similar numerals of reference designate like parts throughout all the figures'of the drawings.
The improved holder consists, essentially, of a base supporting-plate or body portion and a spring clamping-member for securing and supporting the article of mail matter.
The base supporting-plate comprises an enlarged head or face-plate 1, and a reduced depending base or handle portion 2. The head and base portions 1, and 2, are preferably provided with openings 3, for receiving and containing nails or screws by means of which the improved holder may be secured at such place and position as may be desired.
The head or face plate may be suitably ornamented about its marginal edges and is preferably provided with a face or panel 4,

adapted to receive and carry either directly, or indirectly as by means of a rinted label, any suitable and convenient a vertisement. The base supporting-plate is provided at its sides and, preferably, intermediate its head and base portions with pivot-studs 5, by means of which the spring clampin -men1- in its proper o erative position to the base supportlng-p ate.
The spring clamping-member comprises a single length of wire bent upon itself forming a double-armed retaining tongue or loop portion 6, terminating at its upper or free end in an upwardly andoutwardly-projecting loopnose 7, and the base portions 6, of its arms extend outwardly and laterally terminating in horizontally-disposed article or package supporting-arms 8, provided with spring loop-eyes 9, taking over pivot-studs 5, of the base plate. The 100 eyes 9, terminate in upwardly andinwar ly-extending terminal fingers 10, resting against the back of the base portions 6, of the arms of the retaining loop portion 6, said terminal fingers being adapted to normally hold the retainin tongue or loo portion 6, in spring-resisted contact with t e face plate 1.
The upwardly and outwardlyrojecting loop nose 7, at the upper or free en of the retaining loop portion forms an article or package recess or guide 6 for receiving the edge of a letter or package whereby the latter may he slipped in between the arms of the loop portion 6, and the face plate 1, the lower .edge of the letter or ackage being adapted to be supported in horizontal position by resting upon the horizontally-disposed supporting-arms 8, at the base of the retaining oo portion 6.
1*rom the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the operation and advantages of my invention will be readily understood.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is;
A holder for mail matter, comprising a base supporting-plate provided at its sides with pivot-studs, and a spring clampingmember consisting of a single length of wire bent upon itself forming a ouble armed retaining tongue or loop portion terminating at at their rear with sprlng loop eyes taking Witnesses:
its 11 per or free end in an upwardly and outa%ainst the back of said base supportingwar ly-projecting loop nose and having the p ate. 10 base portions of the arms of said 100p portion In testimony whereof I have affixed my extending outwardly terminating in hor1- signature, in presence of two Witnesses. zontally-disposed supporting-arms provided FRANK R; JACKSON.
over said pivot-studs and terminal fingers C. R. SUMMERS, extending above said pivot-studs and restlng N ETTIE J. SUMMERS.
