LOCK-BUCKLE.

Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Beit known that I, WILLIAM I-I. MGGEE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Joliet, in the county of Will and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lock-Buckles, of which the following is a specification.

My invention is a combination collar-ring and lock-buckle and is principally intended for use in connection with dog collars, although it may be applied for other purposes, and the object of the combination is to have a collar that can be removed only by the person in possession ofthe key to the lock buckle, to the ring of which, a strap can be conveniently attached, when desired.

A is the buckle frame, upon which isL riveted the cover B for lock chamber I. At about the center of the frame is the concave brace N in the trough of which is iitted ring D, the tongue E has an eye or loop encircling said brace and ring andthe tongue is thus pivoted on brace N and ring D, thus holding the latter in position. Inv chamber I is lock frame M resting against one end of the chamber and occupying closely the height and Width of the chamber. In the other end off/said chamber is spring L securely placed between the end wall of the chamber and one end of the lock frame, and from .which end, projects the beveled catch O, so that when the end of tongue E is pressed into opening in the center of cover B, it moves the 'catch O (frame M being slidable) back until keeper P is reached, when said catch is sprung into the keeper thus automatically locking the said tongue. Near the cross bar in the center of lock frame M is located a key pin G secured-in frame A, so that by inserting a tubular key, having a lug, into key hole H and down over pin G and then turning the key so as to bring the flange in contact with ysaid cross bar the catch O can be removed from keeper P, thus unlocking the buckle. The end pieces of the lock frame M are thicker than the side and center pieces so as to closely cover the height and Width of the chamber and hold the frame securely, allowing only enough play to permit the frame to slide in the chamber.

The buckle .can have straight or slightly curved side pieces, and for neatness, it is preferable to have short curves or kinks in the side pieces of the frame A at the ends of `brace N.

Spring L may be kept in position in the lengthwise center of the lock chamber by its pressure on `the end wall of the chamber and on the end of lock frame.

What I claim as my'invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is`

The buckle comprising a buckle frame having a cross brace concave on its lower side, a ring 'fitting in the concavity of said cross brace, and a tongue having an eye or loop encircling said brace and ring, and thus pivoting the tongue and securing the ring, as set forth.
