UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
QUINTUS CATO AND CHARLES A. SPAULDING, OF ESTES PARK, COLORADO.
HARNESS-RING.
SPECIRflATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 331,4e77, dated December 1, 1885.
Application filed September 16, 1885. Serial No. 177,250.. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, QUINTUs OATo and CHARLES A. SPAULDING, both of Estes Park, in the county of Larimer and State of 0010- rado, have invented a new and Improved Harness-Ring, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Our invention relates to a ring or clasp adapted to be used in various situations upon a harness, and in other places; and the invention consists of a jointed bar-ring, having a spring-fastening for locking the ring closed, as hereinafter described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure l is a perspective view of our new ring as it appears when closed, and Fig. 2 is a plan view of the ring open.
The ring is composed of the two main portions A B, hinged together at a, so that the ring may be opened, as shown in Fig. 2, and closed, as shown in Fig. 1. The portion B may be made on a plain curve, or it may be bent to form the straight portion 12, the diagonal portion 12 and the longer straight portion I) at right angles to the short straight portion 1). The portion A may be on a plain curve or' bent to form the straight portion a, diagonal portion a", straight portion a at right angles to the straight portion a, and the bottom piece or barge, parallel with the short straight portion a. of the part A correspond exactly with the portions 1), b, and b of the portion B. The bottom part, agis of alength equal to the Width of the ring, and is provided with a spring 0 .tch or holding plate, d, formed with an aperture d, to receive the small stud e, formed at the lower end of the straight portion 1) of the part B,when the ring is closed. The part The portions ct,ct ,and a A,besides being formed with the bottom bar, a, is also formed with the intermediate bar, a near to and parallel with the bottom bar, a, for confining a strap to which the ring may be applied, and the bar a is formed at its outer end with the dowelpin f, that enters a small corresponding aperture, f, made in the part B, when the ring is closed, so as to strengthen the bar a and prevent it from being bent laterally. I
The ring thus constructed is very convenient, and is especially adapted for use as a spreader for inside check-lines, also for keeping the lines from getting twisted.
The ring may be used to advantage, also,at the ends of pad skirts to receive the thill loops, and at various other places, the strap being attached at c.
Having thus described our invention, What we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. As a new article of manufacture, a harness-ring made in two parts, A B, hinged together at o, the part A being formed with parallel bars a (t the part a being provided with a catch for holding the ring closed, substantially as described.
2. The harness-ring herein shown and described, composed of the parts A and B,hinged together at c, the part A being formed with the parallel bars a and a, the latter formed with pin f and provided with the spring holding-plate d, the part B being formed with the small stud e and the aperture f, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
QUINTUS CATO. I
his CHARLES A. X SPAULDING.
