Description

( 0 ModeL) WI TJV SE5 W. FUNK.
HARNESS BUCKLE.
Patented Jul 20, 1886.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN W. FUNK, OF HEYWVOBTH, ILLINOIS.
HARNESS-BUCKLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 346,036, dated July 20, 1886.
(No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN W. FUNK, of Heyworth, in the county of McLean, and in the State of Illinois, have inventedcertain new and useful Improvements in Harness- Buckles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
Myinvention relates toharnessbuckles, and has for its objects to provide a strong, durable buckle, of such a construction that its parts may be easily repaired; also a buckle that can be easily adjusted in its position upon the trace strap. I attain these objects by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a top plan View of my improved buckle attached to straps; Fig. 2, a vertical sectional view taken on the line 00 m of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of my buckle with the pin detached.
Like letters refer to like parts throughout the several views.
The letter A indicates the body or plate of my buckle. Said plate is pivotally attached to the strap by means of the yoke B, which is provided with a pin, G, which is screw threaded at one end and provided with a head at the other. Said yoke is secured to the plate by means of a lip, O, on the upper side of said plate. A lug, D, is provided on the under side of the plate, and at a sufficient distance from the end to permit it to engage with the slot E in the lower strap. The end a of the plate A is held in place by means of a sliding band, F. Said band works loosely upon the straps and readily engages the end of said plate. The opposite end of the plate (marked 1)) is extended a short distance beyond the lip to provide a lever, by means of which the lug may be easily drawn out of engagement with the strap after the band has been pushed back from over the end a of the plate.
The operation of my invention is substantially as follows: I provide the trace-strap with the ordinary holes and pass it through the link. Then when the straps combined form the length required the lug is passed through one of said holes and into the slot E of the lower strap. The band is then pushed over the end a of the plate, thus securely holding the lug in place. By means of thelip on the upper face of the plate (which is preferably made of malleable iron) a new link can be easily attached to the plate when the old one has been broken.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a harness-buckle, a plate. A, provided on its under side with a lug, D, and having on its upper side, near the opposite end thereof, a lip, G, rigidly secured on one side of the yoke to the top of the plate, the opposite side or end of said lip being disengaged from the plate, by means of which the yoke B can be easily and quickly detached, a yoke having screw-threaded openings at its ends, which openings are engaged by a threaded pin or screw, G, in combination with the locking sliding band F substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 13th day of June, 1885.
JOHN YV. FUNK. Witnesses.
