Description

E. L. ANSORGE.
BOX. APPLICATION FILED MAR. 28, 1907.

@mmafl Jw'aga wihwosea y WM EMMA L. ANSORGE, OF NEWAYGO, MICHIGAN.
BOX.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMMA L. ANsonoE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newaygo, in the county of Newaygo and State of lliichigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Boxes, of which the f0llowing is a specification.
This invention relates to a paper box especially adapted for use as a berry box although it can of course be used for any pur pose for which a box can be suitable.
The object of this box is to save stock by cutting it in such a manner that there is practically no waste of material and a further object is a berry box having a bottom which is easily placed in position and which is entirely separate from the sides.
There are two advantages in forming the bottom separate from the sides of the box, one of which is that it can be made of slightly heavier stock than the sides and another is that in shipping the sides and boxes can be packed fiat in separate stacks.
The invent-ion consists of the novel features of construction, hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings forming a part oi this specification:-Figure 1 is a plan view of a blank from which the sides of the preferred form of the box are constructed. Fig. 2 is a Jan view of the bottom detached from the ox. Fig. 3 is a perspective view f the completed box a portion of two adjacent sides being broken out and a portion of the bottom being broken away.
In these drawings A re )resents a blank for forming the sides of the ox, which blank it will be understood is bent upon the transverse lines X, the two end portions being united in any desired manner and this blank .is provided with a plurality of segmental Specification of Letters Patent.

shown in Fig. 3 and serve as supports for a bottom 0. The bottom 0 is rectangular outlined and has the corner portions cut away as shown at C, and its marginal portions C are bent upwardly to form vertical flanges, is also clearly shown in Fig. By constructing the blank A in this manner it will be obvious that it is reversible, either of the side edges being adapted to form the bottom edge of the box. It may also be provided with a second blank, a duplicate of the blank C which blank may be laid within the box so as to rest upon the contents and the upper series of tongues J bent inwardly, and these tongues will th n lock the top or cover in position. I have not shown separate figure of this top for as above stated, it will be simply a square piece of stock such as is shown in fresh and in better condition than if packed in an unventilated box.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is 1 A reversible berry box comprising side members, said members having sets of in wardly extending tongues, the tongues of one set being arranged adjacent one edge of said side members ainl the tongues of the other set being arranged adjacent the opposite edge, and a bottom adapted to slide within the box and to rest on either set of tongues.
