BERRY BOX.
No'. 447,799. Patented Mar. 10,1891.
wrrnesszs mvzn-ron UNITED STATES PATENT OF ICE.
CL'EON TONDEUR, OF OANASTOTA, NEV YORK.
BERRY-BOX.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 447,799, dated March 10, 1891.-
Application filedDecember 26, 1890- Serial No. 375,826. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, OLEON TONDEUR, of Oanastota, in the county of Madison and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Boxes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a plan view of the blank from which my improved box is made. Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the box Viewed from above, slightly modified, the part 2 of the blank now carrying the tongued part 5 and the slotted part 7, while the part 3 carries the slotted part at and the tongued part 6; and Fig. 3,is a similar View of the reverse side of the box as made from the blank of Fig. 1.
Like symbols of reference indicate like parts in each.
The box is made of paper or wood, preferably wood, in thin sheets or veneer, and is in one piece.
Referring to Fig. 1, the blank is composed of parts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and '7, which may be creased, as shown by the intermediate lines, so as to be adapted to be bent on those lines, as hereinafter described. At the end and lateral corners of the part 5 are tongues a b b. At the lateral corners of the part 4 are tongues c c, and at the end of said part are slots d cl, adapted to receive the tongues a. At the side of the part 1 is a slot 6., At the end of the part 6 are tongues f. At the end of the part 7 are slot-s g, and at the side of this part is a slot h. \Vhen the blank is thus formed, the box is made by bending the parts 2 3 at right angles to the part 1, bending the parts at 5 at right angles to the respective parts2 3 and inserting the tongues b 0 into the slot 6 and the tongues a into the slots d, and then bending the parts 6 and 7 into positions at right angles with the parts 2 and 3 and locking the tongues fin the slots 9 and the tongues c b in the slot h. I thus form a strong and self-bracing box, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, which may be used for berries, fruits, &c.
I claim- A wood or paper box having parts 1, 2, and 3 made of a continuous piece and bent at right angles to form three sides of the box, interlocking parts 6 and 7, situated at the ends of the parts 2 and 3 and forming the fourth side of the box, and interlocking parts 4 and 5, projecting at right angles from the lateral edges of the parts 2 and 3 and forming the bottom of the box, substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this'13th day of December, A. 'D. 1890.
CLEON TONDEUR.
