Application led August 14, 1908. Serial No. 448,587.
To all whomy it may concern:
Be it known that l, Geenen H. Nnwnr, a citizen Vof the United States, residing at Winterport, in the county of /Valdo and State of Maine, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bottle-Stoppers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to bottle stoppers, and one of the principal objects of the saine is to provide a stopper for bottles containing` poison or otherI dangerous drugs which will require special manipulation in order to move the corlr r" the bottle and to thus indicate the fact that the bottle contains a dangerous drug or chen ical.
Another object of the invention is to provide a stopper with a metal ring having barbs or prongs projecting therefrom, said stopper being provided with a hinged 'linger hold for withdrawing the stopper troni the bottle.
These and other objects inaT be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawii'ig4v in which,-
Figure l is a perspectiife View illustrating a bottle neck and a stopper pitted therein, said stopper being made in accordance with my invention. 2is a top plan view ot' the stopper. Fig. 3 is a verticel section through the saine. Fig. d is a detail perspective View, showing the Ylinger hold for withdrawing the stopper from the bottle.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral l designates a bottle neel; which .iaj/ be oi any required size and contour, and fitted in the mouth oi said neck is a stopper 2 which may be formed el cork or other suitable material. Fitted to the upper end of the stopper is a ring 3 ot metal having outwardlyv projecting prongs fr, said prongs extending troni the upper and lower enges of the ring or hand 3. rlhe upper edge of' the ring 3 is provided with oppositely disposed lugs 5, and pivotally mounted in said lugs is 'linger hold 6 provided with pintles 7 pivoted in the lugs 5. The -Enger hold G is substantiallpv semi-circular in plan so that said 'linger hold will lie liet against the top of .the stopper 2 when not in use and can he thrown into a Vertical position, es shown in Fig. l, in order to withdraw the stopper from the bottle. rThe ring or 1band 3 is secured to the top of the stopper by means of e pin 8 extending through said ring and stopper, as shown more particularly in Fig 3.
The operation of my invention may be brieii'jv referred to follows: ln taking up a bottle provided with my stopper, whether in the light or dart, the stopper being provided with the prongs will remind the person using the bottle that the contents thereof is dangerous, and he is compelled to manipulate the linger hold 6 in order to withdraw the stopper. l
My invention is of simple construction, can be manufactured at low cost, can be litted to anjT bottle and is reliable and etlicient for its purpose.
l cl inn- 1. A stopper provided with a metal ring or band having outwardly projecting prongs, and a iinger hold pivoted to the band and adapted to lie on the upper surface of the stopper when not in use.
2. stopper for poison bottles having a metal band secured thereto, said band hai*- ing outwardly projecting points or barbs at the upper and lower edges thereof, lugs formed on said band, and a Ylinger hold pivoted in seid lugs, said linger hold being substantialliT semi-circuler in plan to lie upon the upper surface of the stopper.
ln testiiuonj. whereof l allix my signature in presence of' two witnesses.
GEORGE H. NEEY.
