TTED %TATE% PATIEET ERVIN S. OOY, OF TACOMA, WASHINGTON.
TAG-HOLDER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERVIN S. Cor, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tacoma, in the county of Pierce and State of lashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tag-Holders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to tag holders.
The obj ect of the invention is to provide a device by means of which price and other tags may be secured to fabrics so that they cannot become accidentally disengaged therefrom.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be easily applied, cheap to manufacture and withal neat in appearance.
'With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of constructitm, combination and arrangement of parts as will be described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
in the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of the blank; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the device applied to a bell-shaped tag, and ready for application to a piece of goods; Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of the holder applied to a piece of fabric; and Fig. 4 is a similar view showing the holder applied to a piece of fabric in a slightly modified manner.
Referring more especially to the drawings, 1 represents the blank, which is preferably stamped out of a single piece of integral metal having formed near one end thereof a point-receiving aperture, 2, and near the opposite end a pair of notches, one on each side of the blank. Beyond the notches the blank is pointed for a purpose which will be hereinafter described.
In forming the device, the blank is passed through the eye, 4, of the bell-shaped tag and a loop, 5, formed in its body by bending approximately on the line 0Jw of F i 1, and bringing the members extending on either side of the loop together so that the notches will lie adjacent the outer end of Specification of Letters Patent.

the other member near the aperture. The tip end of the point is bent at right-angles to the general plane of the structure, and the pointed end is bent over the opposite end at a point indicated. at .2 so as to be ready for application to the goods.
In Fig. 3 is shown how the pointed end passes through the goods, and has its extreme point entering the aperture 2 to lock the device in clamping position. This figure also shows a reinforcing strap 6 secured to the bottom of the tag so asto strengthen the same.
In Fig. i, instead of first bending the pointed end at the notches, the goods is first inserted between the legs of the device and the point then passed through the goods and bent down with its sharpened point passing through the aperture, and the goods between the legs. This form of attachment is recommended where the goods is light or silky, and the tags large or heavy.
The first form of the attachment described is applicable to heavy goods.
The eye, 4, and the end of the bell-shaped tag, are protected by a sheet of metal, 6, which is clamped upon the end and has a part of it cut away to form the eye, 4, so as to accommodate the holder 1.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention as defined in the ap pended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is:
In a device of the class described, the combination with a tag having an aperture formed therein, of a tag holder comprising a single piece of metal having a narrow tag receiving loop adapted to engage the tag to allow free swinging thereof, a pair of legs, one of which is longer than the other and is provided With a weakened portion so as to In testimony whereof I have hereunto set be bent thereover and a point formed on the my hand in presence of two subscribing Witend of the long leg adapted to penetrate the nesses.
cloth to which the tag is to be attached and ERVIN S. COY. to enter an aperture in the short leg, and Witnesses: again penetrate the cloth and engage the leg D. A. YOUNG,
of which it is a part. A. M. FRASER.
