Be it known that I, .CHAUNCEY E. Rion- ARDSON, .a citizen of the United States'residhis invention relatesto, temporary binding at Washington, in lthe District. of Columbia, havel inventedcertain new and usefulv Improvements in Binders;and I do hereby declare the followin to be a' full, clear,` and exact description lo the invention, such as will enable others skilled inthe art to which it a pertains to make anduse the same.

A further object of the invention is to providein a device of the class covering members vconnected by cords or other flexible means, -w ith tabs preferably of heavy cardboard perforated to permit the passage therethrough of the cords and which are inserted .between the covers and upon the cords as occasion may require.
lith these and other objects in View, the invention comprises certain novel `constructions,4 combinatiimsv and arrangements of parts, as will be hereinafter fully describedl and claimed.

Like characters of reference indicate correspending parts throughoutthe'several views.
The .binder forming the subject-matter of this application comprises cover members 1 0 and 11 preferably provided, respectively, with strips 12 and 13 connected with said cover members by flexible joints or hinges 14 and 15. The strips'12 and 13 are perforated as at 16 to permit a lacing cord lT'Vto be insei-ted therethrough and secured in any proved manner as by the knot 18.
Between the strips 12 and 13 a Aplurality of tabs 19 Aare inserted by means of perforations 20 formed therethrough registering with the openings 16 and through which the lacing c ord 17 extends. The tabs 1 9 are provided upon one or both sides with an adhesive of some kind as gum 2l positioned t0 adhere to and hold .any approved form of periodical or other contents as shown at 22.
It will be noted thatvthe tabs 19 if constructed of heavy card-board or the like will be comparatively cheap and can be carried in stoer and furnished separate from the coversl() and 11 so that the user can purchase the covers with any number of tabs therein and later, if he desires, can purchase cured thereto in the manner above described.
What I claim is 1. A binder comprised of separate cover members, means for connecting the cover members to permit separation of the same to a desired degree, a plurality of strips th'rough which the connectmg means is passed, and leaves carried y thestr'ips, each of the said leaves being folded 'along a line midway of two oi" its edges and secured 'at its fold to the respective strip and having its leaf portions folded also upon themselves.
2. A binder comprised of separate cover members, means for connecting, thc members to permit of their separation to a desired degree, a plurality of strips through which the said connecting means is passed, and leaves carried one by each of the strips, each of the said leaves being folded along a line midway ol two of its edges and being secured to the respective strip at the said fold and having its leaf portions folded back upon them- Q selves, in the same direction.
