WILLIE G. CAMPBELL, OF DARLINGTON, SOUTH CAROLINA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO HENRY THOMAS, OF SUMTER, SOUTH CAROLINA.
MAIL-BOX PENN Y-COLLECTORi.
No. 916,10g.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 23, 1909.
Application filed April 22, 1908. Serial No. 428,481.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that'l, WILLIE G. CAMPBELL, a citizen of the United States, residing atDarlington, in the county of Darlington and State of South Carolina, have invented a new and useful Mail-Box Penny-Collector; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
T he invention relates to a penny collector for rural letter boxes and the object of the invention is to provide a device of this character having a pivoted receptacle adapted to contain pennies and which can be easily inverted by which the pennies carried'therein will drop into the hand of the carrier without the necessity of his removing his glove.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and shown and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of the letterbox having my invention applied thereto. Fig.2 is a transverse sectional view taken through my in vention.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the letter boX to which is secured a substantially L-shaped metallic plate 2 having a receptacle 3 pivotally connected thereto, as at 4. The
receptacle 3 is eccentrically pivoted to the support so as to prevent it from accidentally overturning. When the receptacle is not holding money, the same can be readily in verted so as to prevent the same from filling with water when not in use.
It will be seen that my invention is simple and Very practicable and that in cold weather a rural carrier can obtain the pennies contained therein by simply inverting the receptacle.
What is claimed is A'device of the class described comprising a letter box an L-shaped metallic support connected with said letter box, and a receptacle eccentrically pivoted to said plate and adapted to be inverted when desired.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WILLIE G. CAMPBELL. Witnesses J. P. Mozmeo, Jr., C. W. MILLING.
