Brnnnns, a citizen of the Netherlands, (who has de: clared his intention of becoming a citizen of the United States,) residing at Towner, in the county of Mcl-lenry and State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Mass Sets, of which the following is a specification.

The present invention relates to a carrying case for the use of missionary priests, the object of the invention being to provide a device of this character which embodies novel features of construction whereby all of the principal necessaries for the celebration of mass and baptismal water can be conveniently carried from place to place.

A further object of the invention is to provide a portable mass set in which all of the necessary articles are compactly arranged so as to occupy a minimum amount of space, which admits of quick access being had to any one of the articles, and which is compact and neat in appearance.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel combinations and arrangements of the parts as will more fully appear as the description proceeds, the novel features thereof being pointed out in the appended claim.

For a full understanding of the invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portable mass set constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same with the cover swung upwardly into an open position. Fig. 3 is a detail view of one of the flasks, and Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of the box for receiving altar bread, the cover being swung upwardly into an open position to show the interior partition.

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawing by the same reference characters.

Specifically describing the present embodiment of the invention, the numeral 1 designates a box or case which is open at the top and upper portion of the front thereof, and provided with a suitable cover 2. The ends of the box or case 1 have the upper corners thereof cut away as indicated at 1" adjacent the open upper portion of the front of the Specification of Letters Patent.

The cover 2 is formed in a series of hinged sections, the section 2 being adapted to it over the top of the case, the section 2 being adapted to close the upper portion of the front of the box, while the section 2 forms a flap which is provided with a suitable latch member 3 for locking the cover in a closed position.

A longitudinal partition 4- connects opposite ends of the case 1 and is arranged parallel to and slightly spaced from the front of the case so as to provide a narrow upright compartment 5 extending the full length. of the case. A transverse partition 6 which is arranged at substantially the middle portion of the case extends between the back of the case and the longitudinal partition 4 and divides the space back of the partition 4% into the two compartments 7 and 8.

A flask 9 is designed to be received within the compartment 7 and a second flask 10 is designed to he received within the compartment 8. be two flas rs 9 and 10 are similar in shape, the flask 9 serving to receive altar wine while the flask 10 serves to receive baptismal water. The cap of the flask 10 may have a cross 11 or similar character thereon to admit of the two flasks being readilv distinguished from each other.

A shallow box 12 adapted to receive altar bread is adapted to be received within the compartment 5. In Fig. 4 the cover 13 of this box is shown as swung upwardly into an open position, and it will be observed that the interior of the box is subdivided by an upright semicircular partition 14 into two compartments 15 and 16. lhe compartment 15 is designed to receive small altar breads, while the compartment 16 is designed to receive large altar breads. When this box 12 is closed it can be readily slipped into the compartment 5 of the carrying case 1, as indicated by Fig. 2. The two flasks 9 and 10 together with the box 12 can be readily placed in position within the respective compartments of the carrying case 1 or removed therefrom, and the complete device provides a very compactly arranged portable mass set which can be conveniently carried from place to place by missionary priests and contains all the principal necessaries for the celebration of mass.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A portable mass set for the use of priests,

verse partition dividing the space at the rear of the longitudinal partition into two flask receiving compartments, flasks having a height corresponding to the depth of the case and fitted within the flask receiving compartments, a shallow box having a length corresponding to the length of the case and a width less than the height of the case but greater than the front of the case,

said box being adapted to be received edgewise within the front compartment so that the boX or either one of the flasks can be readily grasped and removed from the front of the case, and a cover for the case.
