Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 23, 1909.
Application-filed April 20, 1908. Serial No. 427,989.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLARENCE B. Cox, a citizen of the United States, residing at lvih n'iingtoin, in the county of Newcastle and State of Delaware, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oil-Cans for Oilstone-Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to oil-cans for oilstone boxes, the object being to provide an oil-can which can be easily and quickly attached to an ordinary oilstone box, whereby the stone can be readily oiled.
Another object of my invention is to provide an oil-can which is so constructed and connected to the box that by simply pressing on a button, the oil will be forced out of the same on to the stone.
Another object of my invention is to provide the oil-can with a spout which is so constructed that a certain amount of oil will be retained in the same at all times, so that when open the oil will pass readily out on to the stone.
A further object of my invention is to provide the top of the can with a eoncavo-convex flexible top adapted to be forced downwardly so as to allow the spout to be opened.
Another object of my invention is to provide a very novel cap for closing the spout.
These objects are obtained by the novel arrangement and construction of parts hereinafter fully described and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1, is a longitudinal section through an oilstone box with my improved oil-can in position. Fig. 2, is a transverse section through the same.
In the drawings A, indicates a box provided with a hinged cover B, for inclosing the oilstone G, arranged therein. The under side of the top of the cover is concavo-convex, and is provided with a central opening B, for the purpose hereinafter fully described; it of course, being understood, that the top can be formed with a flat under face if desired. Arranged within the cover is an oil-can D, provided with ears D, through which screws are adapted to pass for securing the same in position. The can is provided with a concavo-convex flexible top D having a central button D adapted to extend through the opening B, of the top. The bottom of the can is provided with an opening E, surrounded by the annular enl largement E of the spout E, extending downwardly therefrom, and through which extends a rod F. carried by the button D which extends out through the spout, and is provided with a threaded end 011 which is mounted a cap G, carrying a washer G, adapted to be normally held up against the end of the spout by a coil spring H, arranged within the can around the rod F, which forces the flexible top upwardly after it has been forced downwardly by the button.
It will be seen that when it is desired to oil the stone, it is only necessary to press the button slightly which will t'orce the flexible top downwardly, and at the same time force the cap G, downwardly from over the spout, so as to allow the oil to pass out of the same over the cap on the stone, and when the but ton is released, the spring H, will force the top of the can upwardly into its normal position, at the same time closing the spout, when the spout is compressed the oil within the can is under pressure so that it will be forced out of the spout when the cap is open.
The can is provided with a screw cap I, for filling the same, and it will be seen that it is only necessary to remove the cover and invert the same when it is desired to refill the can.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that I have provided anoil can which is very cheap in construction and one which can be readily attached to an oil-stone box.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. The combination with an oilstone box, of an oil-can secured within the cover of the box provided with a flexible resilient top, a button formed with the top extending out through an opening in the cover and movable with said flexible top, a spout formed in the bottom of the can and a rod carried by the button extending through the spout provided with a cap for closing said spout.
2. The combination with an oilstone box provided with a cover having a central opening, of an oil-can provided with ears for securing it within the cover, a button raised upon the top of the can formed in one piece therewith and extending through the opening of the cover, a spout provided with an annular enlargement extending downwardly from the bottom of the can, and a rod carried by the button extending through the spout provided with a cap for closing the spout.

The combination with an oilstone box provided with a cover having a central opening, of an oil-can secured within the cover provided with a flexible concavo-c onvex top, a button raised upon the top formed in one piece therewith and extending out through the opening of the cover and movable with said flexible top, a spout extending downwardly from the bottom of the can, a rod carried by the button extending downwardly through the can and a spout provided with a threaded lower end, a coil spring surrounding said rod between the bottom and top of the can and a cap provided with a washer mounted on the lower end of said rod for closing said spout.

a button formed on said top and extending up through the opening of the cover and movable with said flexible top, an annular flange downwardly extending from the bottom of the oil-can inwardly contracted and formed with a central contracted spout, a rod passing through the can attached at its upper end to the top of the can and havin its lower end extended out through sai spout and carrying a stopper for closing the lower end of the spout, and a coil spring surrounding said rod between the bottom and top of the can, said can being provided with an inward opening with a screw closure thereto.
