STATES UNTTE HUGO GRIMM, OF ERFURT, GERMANY.
lVlUSTARD-POT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 703,250, dated June 24, 1902. Application iiled June 10, 1901. Serial Ne. 63,926. (No model.)
To LZZ 1072/0771, it may concern:
Beit known that I, HUGO GRIMM, a subject of the German Emperor, residing at Erfurt, Germany, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvementsin M ustard-Pots, (for which I have obtained a utility model patent'in Germany, No. 115,355, dated November'26, 1900; a patent in Great Britain, No. 8,491, dated April 25, 1901; and applied for a patent in France, dated April 4, 1901, and in Belgium, dated April (5, 1901,) and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates'to mustard-pots for.
table use, and has for its object the provision ot' an improved mustard-pot in which the contained mustard will be normally kept under pressure, the discharge-opening of which is normally held closed, but readily opened when desired.
W'ith this object in view my invention consists in the improved construction, arrangement, and combination of the parts of a mustard-pot, as hereinafter fully described, and afterward specifically claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate a mustard-pot constructed in accordance with my invention, Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view; and Fig. 2 a bottom plan View thereof, the valve-lever closing the discharge-aperture being shown in Fig. 2 in its closed position in full lines and open position in dotted lines.
Referring to the drawings by letters, a indicates the body of the pot, which is preferablycylindrical in form, and b and c, respectively, the head and bottom thereof, normally held in position therein.
CZ indicates a piston within the body, from which projects a piston-rod through a central opening in the cover h, a springe being coiled about the piston-rod and having its upper bearing against the inside of the cover b and its lower bearing against the piston, whereby the said piston is normally pressed downward upon the mustard contained in the pot, holding the same under pressure at all times.
findicates the discharge-opening, preferably in the center of the bottom c, and g indicates the valve-lever, pivoted below the discharge-opening j' and normally held in position `under the opening, covering it and preventing the discharge of the mustard when not in use, (said lever g projecting through a slot 7 in the body,) apin 71. projecting laterally from the lever g into a recess m in the inner side t' of the body a and being provided with a spring it, coiled about the pin andhaving a bearing against the inside of the body.
The pot being provided with a quantity of mustard under the pressure of the piston d, by moving the lever g in the direction of the arrow in Fig. 2 to the position shown in dotted line the opening f will be wholly or partially uncovered and the desired quantity of mustard discharged. Upon the release of the lever g the spring 7twill force it back into its normal closed position.
From the foregoing it will be seen that my improved mustard-pot is of simple and compact construction, always ready for use, and.
always when not in use kept closed to prevent leakage and waste of its contents.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
A mustard-pot comprising a body having a. slot through its wall, a recess in the inside of said wall and a bottom having a dischargeopening, a valve-lever normally extending across the discharge-opening and projecting through the slot, a pin projecting laterally from the valve-lever into the recess, and a spring coiled about the pin and bearing at its ends against the body and valve-lever respectively, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HUGO GRIMM. Witnesses:
