Description

EMIEL MADISON, OF MARINER HARBOR, NEW YORK.
NON-REFILLABLE BOTTLE;
I Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 29, 1912.
Application filed April 13, 1912. Serial No. 690,507.
To all whom it may; concern:
Be it known that I, EMIEL MADIsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mariner Harbor, in the county of Richmond provision of a bottle of the non-refillable type, the neck of said bottle being provided with a novel form of valve casing which is adapted to permit free egress of a liquid from the bottle upon the tilting of the same, said valve being also arranged to prevent refilling of said bottle when emptied.
Tn carrying out the objects of the invention generally stated above, it will be understood, of course, that the essential features thereof are susceptible to changes in details and structural arrangements, one preferred and practical embodiment being shown in the accompanying drawing.
Figure l is a fragmentary sectional View of a bottle neck showing the valve casing ap plied thereto and constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the valve casing detached. Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the same. Fig. 4 is a transverse section on the line 44 of Fig. 3.
Referring more particularly to the accompanying drawing in which like reference characters designate similar parts, 5 indicates the neck of a bottle having mounted transversely therein adjacent the mouth thereof a pair of guard plates 6 and 7, the guard plate 6 having a central opening 8 while the guard plate 7 is provided with a plurality of openings 9 which are out of alinement with the opening 8 thus preventing an unscrupulous person inserting a tool into the neck of the bottle and tampering with the valve casing which will be presently described.
The valve casing comprises a base 10 having an opening 11 therein, said base being adapted to be seated in the neck of the "bottle as indicated at 11.
Extending from the base 10 in alinement with the opening 11 therein is a hollow member 12 having its wall beveled to provide an elongated opening 13 which is adapt-ed to be normally closed by a pivoted flap valve 14. The pivoted end of the valve 14 is bifurcated to provide ears 15 which are adapted to engage the lateral extension 16 carried by the outer extremity of the member 12, said valve being connected to the extension 16 by means of a pivot pin 17 which engages tl1e ears 15 and said. extension 16. Connecting" the base 10 with the outer end of the extension 16 is a longitudinally arranged brace armr l8 which is also adapted to limit the opening movement of the valve 14. A leaf spring 19 has one end secured in the extension 16 as indicated at 20, the free end of saidspring being adapted to engage the valve 14 to normally retain said valve in a closing position, it being understood of course that the tension of said spring is not suflicient to overcome the pressure of the liquid against the inner surface of the valve 14 when the bottle is tilted.
From the foregoing description it will be obvious that the invention provides an im proved means for preventing the non-refilling of a bottle, said means being simple in construction, durable and effective in carrying out the purpose for which it is designed.
What is claimed is 1. The combination with the neck of a bottle, of avalve casing in said neck and comprising a base adapted to be seated therein, a hollow member rising from said base and arranged to one side of the center thereof and spaced from the wall of said neck, said member being provided with an elongated opening, an extension projecting from the outer end of said member and transversely of the neck of said bottle, and a valve hinged to said extension and adapted to close said opening.
2. The combination with the neck of a bottle, of a valve casing in said neck and comprising a base adapted to be seated therein, a hollow member rising from said base and arranged to one side of the center thereof and spaced from the wall of said neck, said member being provided with an elongated opening, an extension projecting from the outer end of said member and transversely of the neck of said bottle, a valve hinged to said extension and adapted to close said opening, and means carried by said extension and engaging said valve for normally retaining the same in a closing position.
3. The combination with the neck of a bottle, of a valve casing in said neck and comprising a base adapted to be seated therein, a hollow member rising from said base and arranged to one side of the center 10 tion, and a bracearm connected to the free end of said extension and extending longitudinally of said member for limiting the opening movement of said valve.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
EMIEL MADISON.
Witnesses JOHN VVALsH, HERMAN SMEns.
