lZ/TNESSES 4 INVENTOR UNIT sairas HENRY M. WEAVER, OF MANSFIELD, OHIO.
BATH OR BAbl'N WASTE.
T 0 all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, Haney M. Wnavnn, a resident of Mansfield, in the county of Richland and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bath or Basin Wastes and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in bath and basin wastes, and more particularly to improved means for operating the ball lever of improved waste disclosed in my prior patents, the improvements permitting the use of the waste upon that class of lavatory basins which from their limited areas would practically preclude placing the operating device upon the flat part of the lavatory and this improvement permits perfect adjustment of parts to suit conditions as they are found, and the construction is extremely simple, strong and durable and does not disfigure the lavatory in the slightest.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
I In the accompanying drawmgs, Figure 1 is a view in vertical section illustrating my improvements. Figs. 2 and 3 are views of details of construction and Figs. 4 and 5 are views of modifications.
1 represents an ordinary enameled iron lavatory and 2 my improved waste secured thereto and in which the plug valve 3 is moved up and down by the ball lever 4. In an opening in the back or splash portion of the lavatory 1, a threaded sleeve 5 is clamped by a nut 6, screwed thereon and against the back of the splash and a thumb lever 7 is pivotally secured between its ends in this sleeve or bearing 5, the forward end of the lever projecting out far enough to permit its easy operation to open and close the plug valve as. will more fully hereinafter appear. A block 8 is pivotally secured to the inner end of lever 7, and is made with a screwthreaded opening, to receive the screwthreaded upper end of a rod 9. The lower end of the rod 9 is pivotally attached to the outer end of lever 4, after it has been properly adjusted, and it will be seen that this rod can be adjusted in block 8 to fit any Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 2, 1906.
Patented Feb. 23, 1909.
Serial No. 303,822.
Iarrangement of parts but when pivotally i secured to the ball lever the rod cannot turn i to accidentally change the adjustment once 5 ierfccted.
In the modification shown in Fig. 4, the upper end of rod 9 is pivotally secured to the lever 7 and the lower end of the rod is adjustably clamped in a block 10 pivoted to the lever 4-, a set screw 11 being employed to clamp the red at any position of adjustment in the block 10.
In Fig. 5 my improvements are shown applied to an ordinary push knob, adjustment of the rod being had, as shown in figures, namely by a screw clamp at the juncture of the rod with the ball lever.
Other changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of parts described, without departing from my invention, and hence, I do not restrict myself to the precise details set forth but consider myself at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of my invention.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters- Patent is 1. The combination with a lavatory, of a waste plug or valve, a lever attached to said valve for operating the same, a thumb lever extending through and pivotally mounted in the back of the lavatory to move in a vertical plane, a rod connecting the thumb lever and waste plug operating lever, and means for adjusting the connection of said rod with one of said lovers.
2. The combination with a lavatory, a waste valve or plug, and a ball lever con nected with the same, of a thumb lever pivotally supported between its ends in the back of the lavatory to move in a vertical plane, a rod pivotally attached to the ball lever, and an adjustable connection between said rod and the outer arm of the thumb lever.
3. The combination with a lavatory having a wall projecting above the basin portion, and a waste valve in the basin portion of a thumb lever pivotally mounted in the upwardly projecting wall, a lever attached to the valve for operating the same, a rod connecting said levers, and means for adjustably securing said rod to one of said levers.
4. The combination with a lavatory, a waste valve, and a lever connected with said waste valve, of a sleeve mounted in a wall one of said levers, and a rod adjustably secured to said block and pivotally attached to the other lever.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
of the lavatory, a thumb lever pivotally 1 mounted between its ends in said sleeve to move in a vertical plane, and a rod connecting the outer arm of said thumb lever with i the lever connected with the valve.
5. The combination with a lavatory, a Waste valve therefor, and a lever pivoted between its ends and connected with said Waste i l HENRY M. WEAVER.
