Description
NPETERS, PHDTO-LITHUGHAFHEH. WASHINGTON D C To all whom 'it ma/y concern.-
ALBERT B. AUER, OF CHICAGQ,A ILLINOIS.
Letters Patent No. 91,198, dated June 15, 1869.
CHECK-BOOK CLIP.
'She Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
Be it known that I, ALBERT B. AUER, of Chicago, in the county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improved Device for Cutting Checks from Check-Books; and I do bereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description ofthe same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and the letters and figures marked thereon, which forni part of this specification, and iu which- Figure 1 represents a top or plan View of my invention appliedto a checkbook;
Figure 2, an end view of the same; and
Figure 3, a top or plan View as applied to checkbooks with only one check on a leaf. ,i
The nature of my invention consists in a simple straight-edge piece, with a suitable fastening, for fastf ening the same to a check-book, as hereafter more fully described.
To enable those skilled in the art to understand how to manufacture and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the same with particularity.
The same letters of reference refer to the corresponding parts in the diii'erent figures.
In the accompanying drawings-- A represents the check-book, and B, a sharp edged strip, or cutter, which extends across the checks in the check-book, and is fastened to the check-book by a spring-fastening, so that as each checl; is cut oi, as hereafter described. the cutter will press `upon the next check,and so on till all the checks are taken from the book.
The cutter B ,is made as long as the width of the check-book, and it is secured to the check-book across the checks, at the place where it is desired to out them, by means of a rubber spring, C, which is fastened to both ends of the cutter B, and passes beneathA the checks, so as to hold the cutter B rmly upon the check.
When it is desired to cut a check, the person takes hold of the loose end of it, and raises it in such a way that the cutting-edge of the cutter B cuts it.
If there be more than one check on the same page in the check-book, I attach a sliding arm, or cutter, to the cutter B, in such a way that it can be moved thereon to the place where it is desired to cnt the leaf ofthe check-book lengthwise. The cutter B will cit it across the cheek, and D, lengthwise' of the book.
Having thus fully described the construction and operation of my invention,
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Pot ent; is-
The cutter B, with a suitable spring-fastening, for fastening the same to the check-book, when constructed and operating substantially as and for the purposes specified.
