TOILET-CASE.
Specification of Letters Patent. v
Patented eb. 2, 1909.
Application 'filed April a, 1908. Serial No. 425,565,.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, E1210 ERICKSON, a
citizen of Sweden residing at Portland. in
the county of Multnomah and State of Oregon, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Toilet-Cases, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates-to toilet devices and more especially to cases for containing toilet articles; and it consists in a peculiar structure of cases having sides so hinged as to adapt the device to the use of a peculiar kind of catch.
The object of my invention is to provide a portable toilet case having a plurality of hinged sides with a peculiarly formed plusshaped catch. I attain these objects and other advantages by the mechanism, construction, combination, and arrangement of parts illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which form a part hereof.
Figure 1 is a vertical side view with the front cover opened horizontally and the two side covers partly open. Fig. 2 is a vertical side view upon the opposite side to' that shown in Fig. 1 with the front cover opened horizontally and the two side covers closed and the upper portion of the sides broken away. Fig. 3 is a plan View of the plusshaped catch.
Like numerals and letters refer to like parts in all views.
A is a rectangular hollow case having top. bottom and three vertical walls f, g and h, the fourth wall being omitted as shown in Fig. 2. There are within the body of the case, compartments or recesses for the reception of toilet articles as shown in Fig. 2. In these compartments or recesses may be placed such articles as the soap 19, the shaving mug 4, the mirror 17 and the brush 18. The mirror may also be suitably secured within the compartment as indicated in the figure. The other three sides of the case are similar to the one thereof exhibited in Fig. 1 on the plane of the paper. They are partly provided with suitable recesses therein formed so near the sizes and shapes of the toilet articles to be received in the same that they fit snugly within said recesses and cannot be more clearly shown in the drawings.
Other recesses may be provided for other articles not shown in the drawings. As examples of this are the shaving brush 3, the scissors 14:, the razor box 15 and the comb 16. Again, other articles are secured to the surface of sides of the case such as the strop 5 and the hone13.
. The case A is provided with covers I), of, d and e on its respective four sides, the covers 5 and 03 having recesses in their inner surfaces to permit them to be closed over the sides of the ease carrying articles on the sur-. faces thereof. The covers are hinged at the lower ends to the bottom of the case by hinges such as 7- -7". The covers a and e are shown opened in horizontal position in Figs. 1 and 2, the hooks on same being omitted in the drawing but which are intended to be placed thereon in the same position as the hooks 8 on covers 5 and 01 shown partly open,
in Fig. 1. When closed, the covers have their inner edges in contact with each other, thus making the outward appearance of the case substantially rectangular in form. The four screws shown in the corners of the side on plane of the paper in Fig. 1 are ornamental.
Within the case and secured to the lower surface of the top thereof by a central bolt is a plus-shaped springcatch 9, see Fig. 3.
The four arms of said catch are provided. with openings 11 and the arms are formed and arranged to spring upward and to receive the cover hooks 8 first in sliding engagement on their lips 9' and afterwards in engagement with the inner surface of the lips 9, by which the hooks are retained in locking position. The spring catch 9 is partly hidden by the article holding case surface shown in Fig. 1, the end of the arm only being visible through an opening. An
opening is provided in the case surfacethrough which the hook 8 of theopposing cover may pass into engagement with the catch arm as related, on the sides where the three walls are, when the covers are closed.
It will thus be seen that by depressing thumb pins 10, the arms of the securing catch 9 are also depressed, releasing the hooks 8 and allowing the covers to be opened to gain access to the interior of the case. Also that when the. covers are being closed the hooks 8 slide upon the arms of the plusshaped catch .9 depressing the same until they pass the lips 9, engaging them on the inside surfaces thereof and at the same time the arms 9 spring upwardly and thus retain the covers securely locked. Any cover may thus be separately opened or closed and locked.
My toilet case is adapted to be used as a receptacle for various toilet articles for ladies or gentlemen and particularly for a shaving outfit. It is intended that 1t shall be of a size and form convenient to be carried by hand or in trunks or valises for traveling pur oses, or it may be used about the house an provides therefor a most convenient, neat and cleanly receptacle for toilet articles. 7 v
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim:
1. A portable toilet case comprising a rectangular box having four covers I), c, d, a hinged to said case, outer surfaces partly recessed to receive and partly'prov1ded With means to secure thereon toilet articles, locking hooks fixedly secured in horizontal positlon to the upper inner surface of said covers, a plus-shaped catch fixedly secured at its center to the center of the lower surface of the top of the case and provided with four spring formed arms 9, each arm having an opening to receive a depressmgpm and upward turned lips 9 at the ends of the arms formed to engage said locking hooks attached to said covers, vertical depressing thumb pins 10 slidably mounted within the top of the case and secured at the lower ends to the arms 9, the locking hooks being formed to slide over and engage said lips, substantially as described.
2. In a portable toilet case, locking mechanism comprising lockin hooks 8 fixedly secured in horizontal position to the upper surface of hinged case covers 6, c, d, e, a plus-shaped catch fixedl secured at its center to the center of the ower surface of the top of the case and provided with four spring formed arms 9, each arm havin an opening to receive a depressin pin an upward turned lips 9 at the en s of the arms formed to engage said locking hooks attached to said covers, vertical depressing thumb pins 10 slidably mounted within the top of the case and secured at the lower ends to the arms 9, the locking hooks being formed to I slide over and engage said lips, substantially as described.
ERIC ERICKSON.
