KATHARINE NEIDHART, OF JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO SOLOMON GRAFF, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
WASHABLE GAP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 26, 1909.
Application filed November 13, 1908. Serial No. 462,372.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, KATHARINE NEID- HART, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jersey City, Hudson county, State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Washable Caps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a cap or bonnet composed of separable sections, which, when disconnected from each other, may be readily washed and ironed.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a cap embodying my invention; Fig. 2 a side view thereof, partly broken away; Fig. 3 a section on line 3-3, Fig. 2; Fig. 4 a detail of the front cap-section, and Fig. 5 a detail of the rear cap-section.
The main body of the bonnet is composed of two separate sections 10, 11, illustrated in Figs. 4 and 5, respectively. Front section 10 is made of oblong form with one long straight side 12, one long concave side 18, and two short straight sides 14. At the junction of sides 13, 14 the angles are beveled as at 15. Around the entire section 10 extends a line of perforations or beading 16. Rear section 11 is made of circular shape with a circumferential line of perforations or beading 17.
In assembling the parts, a ribbon or string 18 interlaces the curved side 13 of section 10 with the circumferential openings 17 of section 11. The length of curved side 13 should be equal to that of the periphery of section 11, so that section 11 will be completely inclosed by section 10 and form a flat back for the cap, of which section 10 forms the front. After the string has completel encompassed section 11, it is passed throug the openings of beveled sides 15, to draw them together and thus close the cap below section 11.
Within the cap constructed as described, there may be contained a lining and a padded interlining, each composed of two se arable parts corresponding in all respects to t lose of the cap proper. Thus the interlining is composed of the main oblong front section 19 and circular back section 20 connected by lace string 21. In like manner, the lining is composed of oblong front section 22 and circular ack section 23 connected by string 24.
In assembling the parts, the two sections of the cap and of the lining and interlining are first separably connected, and are placed in juxtaposition. Then a single lace string 25 is threaded through the beaded rim 16 along sides 12, 14 of the cap and through the corresponding rims 26, 27 of the lining and interlining, so that in this way all the parts are securely connected.
It will be seen that my improved cap is readily separable and that its component parts, when disconnected, are entirely foldless, so that they may be quickly and efficiently laundered.
I claim:
1. A washable cap composed of an oblong front section having a concave side and beveled corners, a curved rear section adapted to be encompassed by said concave side, and a string that removably connects the sections and also connects the corners, substantially as specified.
2. A washable cap composed of an oblong front section having a perforated concave side, a circular circumferentially perforated rear section, and a string removably engaging the perforations of the concave side and rear section, substantially as specified.
3. A washable cap, comprising a body and a lining, each composed of an oblong front section having a concave side and a curved rear section removably secured to said concave side, and with means for removably connecting the front section of the body with the front section of the lining, substantially as specified.
4. A washable cap, comprising a body, a lining and an interlining, each composed of an oblong front section having a concave side and a curved rear section removably secured to said concave side, and with means for removably connecting the front section of the body with the front sections of the lining and interlining, substantially as specified.
5. A washable cap composed of an oblong front section, a curved rear section adapted to be encompassed by said front section, and a string that removably connects the sections, substantially as specified.
Signed by me at New York city, (Manhattan,) N. Y., this 5th day of November, 1908.
KATHARINE NEIDHART.
