E. A. FISHER, OF MORGANVILLE, NEW YORK.
Letters Patent No. 91,004, dated .Time 8, 1869. Y
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may conce/rn Be it known that I, E. A. FISHER, of Morganville, in the county of Genesee, and State of New York, have. invented a new and useful Improvement in Bag- Holders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled lin the art to make. and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a side view of my improved bag-holder adjusted for holding the bag in an inclined position.
Figure 2 is a detail side view, illustrating a modification of the same.
Figure 3 is a top view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention has for its object to furnish an improved hag-holder, which shall be so constructed and arranged as to hold the bag in either a vertical or inclined position; and
It consists in'the construction and combination of the various parts of the device, as hereinafter Amore fully described.
A is the hopper, the lower part of which is so formed as to enter the mouth of the bag to be filled, and is provided with hooks a', for the convenient attachment of the said bag.
The rear part of the upper edge of the hopper A is flared outward, and projects above the edge of the forward part, so as to serve as a guard to catch and guide into the bag any grain that may ily from the shovel.
To the rear side of the hopper A is attached,or upon it is formed a block, B, which slides up and down along the forward side of the standard, and is provided with hooked arms C, the hooks of which enter grooves. formed in, or rest against flanges formed upon or attached to said standard, to keep the sliding block B in place upon the said standard.
To the sliding block B is attached a pawl, D, which may be inadein the form of a strap passing around the standard E, and taking hold of a rack, F, formed upon `or attached to the rear side of the said standard, asl
shown ings. l and 3; or the said pawl may be made in the form of a projection of the block B, to take hold of the rack F, formed upon or attached to the front side of the said standard E, as shown in g. 2.
' The standard E is formed with grooves, or flanges upon its sides, and with rack-teeth F, formed upon or attached toits rear or front side, as hereinbefore described.
To the lower end of the standard E is attached a base, or foundation-board, or platform G, extending out at the 'ont of the standard, both to give a iirm foundation to said standard, and to serve as a platform for the bag to stand upon. Y
The standard E may he hinged or jointed at or near its lower end, so that it may be inclined, to hold the bag in an inclined position, for convenience in lling the bags with the shovel.
In this case, the jointed standard E should be provided with a spring-catch, H, attached to said standard, or to the platform G, to hold the standard rigidly in a vertical position when required. y
When the jointed standard is used in an inclined position, its forward end should rest vupon a frame formed of two vertical bars, I, connected t0 each other, and held in their proper relative positions by one or more cross-bars, J.
With the vertical bars I of the frame I J, is also connected an adjustable cross-bar, K, the ends of which enter and slide up and down in grooves, or slotsl formed in said vertical bars I, and which is supported in any desired position, by pins passing through one or the other of the holes through the said vertical bars, according to the height at which the bag is to be supported.
To the rear side of the adjustable bar K is hinged a board, or platform, L, the other end of which may rest upon'the platform G, to support the body, or middle part of the bag, while being filled.`
Having thus described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isl The frame I J, adjustable bar K, and hinged board L, in combination with the hopper A and jointed standard E, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
, E. A. FISHER.
