Description

UNITED STATES PATENT' OFFICE.
E. M. coaBErr, or NEW YORK, N. Y.
CAM ERA-sTAN D. l
. Spcciiie-.tlion lilrming part o1 Letters Patent No. 35,671, (lated June Q4, 18H2.
.T0 all whom it may concern; Y
Be it known that l, E. M. Coanic'r'r, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invcnteda new and Improved Cameratand; and I dohereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference bei ng had to the accompanying d rawings, forming a part of this speeilicalion, in which- Figure l represents a longitudinal vertical section of my invention, the line :r rt, Fig. 2, indicating the plane of section.. Fig. 2 is arear elevation ot' the same.
Similar letters of reference in bothviews indicate corresponding parts.
This invention consists in the arrangement of two diagonal frames connected together on the principle of lazy-tongs and hinged at their opposite ends to the rising and falling platform, which supports the camera, and to the stationary top of the stand, in combination with slides which permit said diagonal frames to adjust themselves according to their higher orlower position in such a manner that the platform, with the camera, can be raised or lowered in parallel planes, and that the same is supported perfectly rm and steady in front and rear in whatever position it may be brought.
It consists, also, in the employment' or use of a Wedge-shaped hinged slide moving in grooves in the sides of the platform for the purpose of adjusting the incl-iuation of the camera.
To enable those skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe it with reference to the drawings.
The stand A consists of the movable platform B, the stationary top C, and three legs, D.
The platform B is connected with the stationary top C by means. of the frames E E',
which are secured together in their centers by pivots a, on the principle of lazy-tongs. The frame E is attached with one end, by means of hinges b, to the edge of the stationary top G, and with its other end, by mea-ns form B, and the frame E connects, by means ofhinges d e, with slides fg, the slidesf being retained by grooved guides f', that are secured to the under side ofu the platform near to its front edge, and the slides g by similar grooved guides, g', thatare attached to stationary top C near ils rear edge, as clearly shown in Fig. l of the drawings. A handlever, F, which is hinged to the under side ot' the stationary top C, connects, by a bar or frame, G, with one ofthe diagonal frames, E', said connectingframe being attached to the lever F by a pivot Or pivots, h, and to the diagonal frame E by pivots t', so that by raising or depressing the lever the platform B can be adjusted higher or lower, as may be desired, and in whatever positionthe platform may be brought it is always firmly supportedpn four pivots, so that it affords a tlrm support for the camera, land that the danger of spoiling the pictures by a shake of the camerastand is avoided, or at.
least considerably lessened.
rPhe lever F passes through a slot, j, in the front leg, and it may be secured in the Adesired position by a screw-bolt, Ir, moving in slots Z'm inthe lever and leg, or by any other desirable means; and by fastening the lever the platform is also secured in the position in which it has beenlbrought by thc action of said lever. It must be remarked, however, that the platform might be secured by any other desirable means with equal advantagesuch as spring-catches k catching into the serrated edges of the frame G. y
Two flanges, a, project over the side edges of the platform, and these tlanges are provided with grooves o to form the guides for a wedgeshaped hinged slide, H. By pushing this slide more or less under the rear edge of the camera the inclination of the latter toward theI horizon can be adjusted at pleasure.
If it is desired to place the camera dat down on the platform B, the slide H is drawn back until the hinged part turns downV beyond the edge of the platform, and that portion of the hinged slide which remains in the grooves 0 forms a stop to prevent the camera falling o it by accident, and at the same time the slide 1s always in its place and is not liable' to get lost. of hinges c, to the opposite edge of the plat- Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. The arrangement of the diagonal frames E E', connected together by-pivots n., on the hinged slide H,
guided by grooves o in the side flanges, n, of-tlle platform B, as and for the purpose specified. f
