Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE GEORGE W. N. YOS'I, OF OORRY, PENNSYLVANIA.
IM PROVEM ENT lN HARVESTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 90,909, dated June 1, 1869.
To all interested I, GEORGE W. N. YOST, of Corry, Iennsylvania, have invented a Climax-Body Fastening, an improvement of my climax-body for grass and grain cutting machines.
The following description and accompany ing drawings, of both which the specifying letters are alike and refer to the same parts, fully illustrate the invention.
A and A' are two cases, forming my climaxvbody, as described iu my patent of August 18,
S is a bar surrounding a traveling-wheel, B or B', and attached to each end of the body A and A', making my climax floating-bar, as described in my patent of October 6, 1868.
B is a cylinder, about four inches in diameter and four to ve inches long, projecting from each end of the body, and cast with or made a solid part of it, part with A and part with A'.
r is a ring or band one to two inches wide, to go over the cylinder R at each end of the body, and stout enough to hold the cases A and A firmly together.l
,r' is a loop or eye similar to the ring or band fr, two to four inches wide, attached to each end of the iloating-bar S, to go over the cylinder B at each end of the body A and A'.
The object of the invention is a simple, 'cheap fastening for attaching together the eases of the body A and A'; and the nature of the invention is in using the bands r or the floating-bar loops r', either the bands or loops alone, or both together over the cylinders B at the ends of the body, to fasten together the cases A and A'.
In my invention of a climax-body I used two large, long, expensive bolts, with large and costly heads, and nuts and screws thereon, to fasten together the cases of the body A and A'.
I now dispense with both the said bolts, and use instead the cheap, simple device herein described, two bands, r, round projecting cylinder B from the ends of the cases of the body A and A' 5 and to simplify and cheapen the fastening still more, I attach the said bands r' to the ends of the oating-bar S.
Besides being simpler and cheaper, the bands are many pounds lighter than bolts, making the weight of the machine so much less, all combined giving an advantage of much importance 5 and I claim- 1. The combination of the bands 'r with the cylinders B of the cases of the body A and A', as described, for grass and grain cutters.
2. The combination of the loops fr', attached to the iloating-bar S, with the cylinders B of the cases of the body A and A', as described, for grass and grain cutting machines.
G. W. N. YOST.
