UNIT D STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BERNT HESTNESS, OF SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO INGEBRET J. BLAKKAN,'OF ROCKFORD, WASHINGTON.
ANTISLIPPING PROTECTOR FOR QVERALLS OR OTHER LIKE GARMENTS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 26, 1908.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BERNT HESTNESS, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Diego, in the county of San Diego and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Antislipping Protectors for Overalls or other Like Garments; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in anti slipping protectors for overalls or other analogous articles, and has for its object the production of a device of this kind which may be readily applied to the knee and seat portions of the overalls to protect the same from wear or tear while the person is in a kneeling or sitting position, and which will also prevent accldental slipping while the person is in either of said positions.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings; Figure 1 is a front elevation of a pair of overalls with the invention applied thereto, Fig. 2 is a rear elevation, and Fig. 3 is a diagonal cross section taken through one of the protectors.
In the embodiment illustrated the numeral 1 indicates a pair of overalls of any ordinary pattern, and 2 the protectors, which as shown are arranged at the knee and seat portions of the overalls, although it is evident that they may be arranged at various other points to protect adjacent portions of the garment from wear or tear.
As shown, each of said protectors comprises an outer approximately flat metallic protective plate 3, which is punched throughout its entire surface to form outwardly proj ecting spurs or teeth 4. While it is preferable to employ plates of the construction shown it is evident that any form of plate presenting a roughened outer surface would be applicable. Cushion pads 5 approximately corresponding in size and shape with the protective plates 3 are arranged under the same, and are attached thereto by rivets 6, or other suitable fastening devices, which extend through the outer protective plates and cushion pads preferably at the corners thereof. Before attaching the cushion pads to the protective plates, however, flexible fastening pieces 6 of'suitable material are arranged between the same, the marginal edges of the fastening pieces extending beyond the plates and pads and being adapted to be sewed or otherwise fastened to the overalls.
A device constructed in accordance with this invention if attached to a pair of overalls or the like, as shown, will prevent a mechanic from slipping or sliding while in a kneeling or sitting position when at Work in building or repairing roofs, etc. The cushion pads 5 protect the knees and other portions of the mechanic from ,becoming bruised by contact with the plates 3.
The invention not only serves as an anti slipping means, but to protect adjacent portions of the overalls from becoming torn or damaged.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In combination with a pair of overalls or other like garment, anti slipping protectors arranged at the knee and seat portions of the garment, each of said protectors comprising an approximately fiat anti slipping plate punched throughout its entire ..surface to present outwardly projecting spurs or teeth.
2. In combination with a pair of overalls or other like garment, anti slipping protectors arranged at the knee and seat portions of the garment, each of the protectors comprising an outer approximately flat metallic anti slipping plate punched throughout its entire surface to present outwardly projecting spurs or teeth adapted to penetrate into or engage a surface, and flexible fastening members attached to said plates and at their marginal edges to the garment.
3. In combination With a pair of overalls or other like garment, anti slipping protectors arranged at the knee and seat. portions of the garment, each of the protectors comprising an approximately flat metallic plate punched throughout its entire surface to produce outwardly projecting spurs or teeth adapted to engage a surface, cushion pads arranged under and attached to the metallic plates, and flexible pieces of material arranged between the metallic plates and cushion pads and marginally attached to the garment.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
BERNT HESTNESS.
Vitnesses:
IDA J. HIMEBAUGH, H. H. HIMEBAUGH.
