AD JUSTABLE LOCK-STRIKE.

Be it known that I, DANIEL 1V. TOWER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grand Rapids, Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Lock-Strikes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in adjustable lock strikes.
The main object of this invention is to provide an improved adjustable lock strike which may be quickly and accurately ad justed to hold a door in the desired position.
Another object is to provide an improved adjustable lock strike which is very simple and economical in structure, and, at the same time, one which effectively accomplishes the purpose for which it is intended.
Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification.
The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure embodying the features of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a structure embodying the features of my invention, the view being taken from the inner side. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the structure shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal section taken on a line corresponding to line 8-3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4c is a detail section taken on a line corresponding to line 44; of Fig. 3, the nut for the adjusting screw being shown in full lines. Fig. 5 is a detail section corresponding to that of Fig. 3 of a modification, the nut being rigidly supported instead of being pivotally supported as shown in Figs. 1 to 1, inclusive. Fig. 6 is a side elevation of a modified construction taken from the inner side. Fig. 7 is a plan view of the structure shown in Fig. 6. Fig. 8 is a vertical longitudinal section taken on a line corresponding to line 8-8 of Fig. 7
In the drawings, similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views, and the sectional views are taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines.
Referring to the drawing, I provide a base portion preferably consisting of a base Specification of Letters Patent.

plate 1, having holes 2 therein to receive the screws for securing the base in position, and a housing. The walls of the housing are preferably formed of sheet metal and consist of outer side wall 3, and end walls 4 and 5, the end wall 5 being curved, as illustrated, and having a short side wall portion thereon, the object of which will appear later.
The walls are preferably an integral sheet metal stamping suitably fastened to the base plate 1, which also may be of sheet metal stamping. The keeper or engaging member 6 is provided with an arm portion 7, which i is pivoted to the outer side wall 3 at 8, so that the keeper may be adjusted to bring it into proper position relative to the base or body of the strike. The keeper is preferably slotted at 9 to receive the adjusting screw 10. A collar 11 is provided for the screw to engage the keeper so that it is carried in or out by turning the screw in its nut 12.
The nut 12 is preferably mounted on pivots 13 arranged in suitable holes provided therefor in the walls of the casing so that it may readily adjust itself to the screw, thus preventing the binding of the parts and avoid the necessity for their accurate adjustment in assembling. In the modified structure shown in Fig. 5, the nut 12 is mounted on a tubular support it adapted to receive the screw. By slotting the end of the keeper, the parts may be easily assembled. Of course, so far as the adjustment is concerned, the same result would be secured if the screw were arranged through a hole of suflicient dimensions to compensate for the swinging movement of the keeper.
In the modified construction shown in Figs. 6, 7 and S, the keeper is pivoted on the top of the base by means of the pivot 15. In this modified construction, the base portion is a casting. The base is provided with a suitable nut 12 formed integral therewith.
By thus forming and assembling the parts, I secure an adjustable strike which is particularly desirable for use in refrigerators and like structures where it is desired to close a door to form a very tight joint. By means of this adjustment, the strike may be adjusted to secure the desired result, obviating the necessity of great care in setting the strike or the lock and also making it possible to adjust the strike to compensate for shrinking of the wood, or the compressing of the gaskets of the door such as is likely to occur from use.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. The combination with a base having a bolt opening therein and comprising a housing; a keeper; an arm by which said keeper is carried pivoted on the side wall of said housing at one end thereof; an adjusting screw for said arm arranged through said keeper arm; and a nut for said screw mounted in said housing.
2. The combination with a base having a bolt opening therein, and comprising a housing; a keeper; an arm by which said keeper is carried pivoted 0n the side wall of said housing at one end thereof; an adjusting screw for said arm; and a nut for said screw pivotally mounted in said housing.
3. The combination with a base portion; a keeper; an arm by which said keeper is carried pivoted to said base portion, said arm having a slot in its swinging end; an adjusting screw for said arm arranged through said slot in said keeper arm said screw being provided with an arm engaging collar; and a nut for said screw carried by said base portion.
4:. The combination with a base portion; a keeper; an arm by which said keeper is carried pivoted to said base portion; an adjusting screw for said arm; and a pivoted nut for said screw carried by said base portion.
5. The combination with a base portion; a pivoted keeper; an adjusting screw for said keeper; and a pivoted nut for said screw carried by said base portion.
6. The combination with a base portion of a keeper pivoted to said base portion; an adjusting screw arranged through a slot in said keeper; and a nut for said screw carried by said base portion.
