STOVE-DOOR HINGE.
T 0 all whom it may concern 5 'Be'it known that I, FREDERIC G. NICOLAUS,
a citizen "of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county ofj-Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have inventedj certain new and useful Improvementsin'Stove -Door Hinges, of which the following zis'a specifi-- cation, reference'being hadtherein to the accompanying drawing. 1
My invention relates to improvements in stove door hinges.
The object of my invention isto provide a hinge of this character which is readily se cured to the door-frame by means of a single bolt and which-ob iates-the necessity of drilling holes in the door-frame for securing. the hinge thereto and supporting means whereby the door is held inits adjusted position. w I i Another object of my invention is to provide a stove door hinge of this character in which the wearingparts can be readily removed and replaced, and at the same time providing a simple, cheapand effective hinge having certain details of structure and combination of parts hereinafter more fully set forth." I I In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective View of my improyedh-inge showing it appliedto the dro-p door of a gas range oven. Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Flg.
3 is an enlarged perspective. View of the hinge and'its several parts-showing them in their disassembled relation. Fig. 4 1s a vertical sectional view of one of the hinged sections showing the door in the open position.
' openings in the. angle-iron it will be; under- "stood that there are two-arranged the-proper" scribed. i 1
Referring now to-the vdrawings, 1 represents the front frame of the oven which is preferably made of angle iron having 7 a short leg 2 and a long leg..8 shown in Fig. 3
of the drawings. Theshortleg 2 of the angle iron has a cut away 'porticnz l while the'long leg, has a cut-away portion 0 communicating therewith. ..;,.The endgof the cutaway portion 5 isvprovided with a cut-away portion 6 having its outer end curved. for the purpose hereinafter more fully de- WVhile I have described but one of the V Specification of Letters Patent. I I Patented- Nov, 2, 1915, v Application filed July 13, 1915. Serial No. 39,633.
distance apartgand the second opening has the cut-away portion 6 arranged on'the oppositesldefrom that shown in Fig. 4 of the drawings so that the thrust of the pintles is taken up by-the bearings arranged- I therein. r
* vThe door-fran'ie 7 is made of any desired form and is provided at its lower end with the downwardly extending lugs 8 and-9 which may be cast integral therewith o r" made n anyother desired manner. These; fv
drical form as indicated at 10 having" on opposite sides thehinge pintles 11 wliichas shown in Fig.3. of the'drawings. are eccenf trically arranged. The door-frame? is cutaway as indicated at 11 for the purpose of providing room for the'enlarged heads of the combined securing boltsand pintle bearings to-be later described. The cylindrical members 10 are provided with an eritension 12 having the roundedface 13 andthe fiat face 14 clearly shown in Fig. 4 of the drawsize to snugly fit the cut-away portioni6' 0f, the leg-3of the an le-iron-and whereby they 85 same is prevented from turningand is provided wlth-a horizontally disposed opening .18 adapted to fit the-pintles 11, as clearly shown lIlfFlQf. 2 of the drawings. 7 ing outwardly from the bodyportion 117. is a Extendscrew-threaded extension 19. a The head 15 of the pintle bearing rests against the outer .face ofthe leg 3 and prevents the inward movement thereof, through the cut-away portion 6 in the angle-iron. Surroundingthescrew-threadedeXtension19 of the pintle The pintle bearings consist of a large. fiat 11 28 are preferably of an enlarged cylinbearing is a saucer-shaped member QO which has. one side cut-away gas'"indicated {d121,
. which allowsthe free movement of the cylindrical member 10. tlcrewed u on the extreme outer end ofthe'screwethreadedekgtension 19. is -a nut122 which clarnpsqthe -zsaucer-shaped member -20 against the inner face .of-thefangleriron and allows .for the 1 enlarged body portion?! so that ample mad the the terial is provided for the betting for pintle. The inner face of the leg 3 of angle-iron has secured thereto by means of the inner face of the member 24 and springs the same outwardly, whereby the door will be frictionally held in its adjusted position. In order to limit the movement of the door upon a horizontal plane, the cylindrical members are provided. with extensions which engage the lower face of the leg 2 of the angle iron, as clearly shown in Fig. i of the drawings.
While I have shown and described this specific form of hinge and friction holding means, it will be understood that the same could be varied without departing from my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. The combination with a stationary member, of a movable member having a pintle, fand a pintle bearing having means for attachment to the said stationary member, and'friction means for holding the movable member in its adjusted position.
2. The combination with a stationary member having a cut-away portion, of a movable member having a pintle carrying member entering said cut-away portion, means secured within the cut-away portion and forming a bearing for said pintle, and friction means for engaging the movable member and holding it in its adjusted position.
3. The combination with a member having a cutaway portion, of a movable member having a pintle carrying member entering said cut-away portion, a locking bolt forming a bearing for said pintle, and means for engaging the movable member for holding it in its adjusted position.
4:. The combination with a stationary member having cut-away portions, of a movable member havingpintle carrying members entering said cut-away portions, locking bolts forming bearings for said pintles, and means carried by the stationary member for engaging the 'pintle carrying members and holding the movable member in its adjusted position. 1
a 5. The combination with a stationary member having cut-away portions, of a movable member having pintle carrying members, entering said cut-away portions, lockmg bolts forming bearings for said pintles,
and a member secured to the stationary member and extending outwardly and engaging the pintle carrying members for holding the movable member in its adjusted position. 7
6. The combination with a stove-frame having cut-away portions, of a door having eccentrically arranged pintle carrying members entering said cut-away portions, locking bolts forming bearings for said pintles, and a member secured to the stove-frame between .the pintle carrying members and adapted to engage the same for holding the door in its adjusted position.
7. The combination with a stove-frame having cut-away portions, a stove-door pintle carrying members carried by the door and entering said cut-away portions, locking bolts forming bearings for said pintles, a member secured to the frame between the pintle carrying members, and adapted to engage the same for holding the door in its adjusted position.
8. The combination with a stove-frame having cut-away portions, of a door, pintle carrying members entering said cut-away portions, pintles eccentrically carried by said members, means secured within the cut-away portions andv forming bearings-for said pintles, a member secured to the frame intermediate the cut-away portions and having outwardly extending arms engaging the periphery of the eccentrically arranged pintle carrying members, whereby the door is held in its adjusted position.
9. The combination with a stove-frame having-cut-away portions, of a door, members carried by said door and entering the cut-away portions, pintles eccentrically carried by the said members, locking bolts forming bearingsfor said pintles and secured within the cut-away portions, an elongated plate secured to the frame intermediate the cut-away portion, and having outwardly extending arms engaging the periphery of the pintle carrying members, and outwardly extending lugs carried by the pintle carrying members, and adapted to engage the frame for limiting the downward movement of the door.
