PACKAGE-TIE Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern: I

Be it known that I, STASIA B. STALEY, citizen of the United States, residing at Mitchell, in the county of Lawrence and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Package-Ties, of which the following is a specification.

The object of this invention is an improved package tie which is designed to be applied to bundles of papers to be filed and to supersede the shortlived rubber band ordinarily employed for this purpose. And a further object of the invention is a simple, durable and efficient construction of a device of the character described which may be adjusted for use with packages of different sizes, and which may be easily and quickly applied thereto or removed therefrom.

With these and other objects in view that will more fully appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain constructions and arrangements of the parts that I shall hereinafter fully describe and claim.

For a full understanding of the invention and the merits thereof, reference is to be had to the following description and the accompanying drawing, in which:

Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved package-tie showing it applied. Fig. 2 is a transverse section thereof. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section and Fig. 4 is a detail view in perspective of the longitudinal bond.

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawing by the same reference characters.

My improved package-tie comprises a longitudinal bond 1 and two transverse bonds 2 detachably secured thereto. Each bond is constructed of an integral strip of tape, leather or the like upon which is mounted a slide 3, one end of said strip being secured to the slide and the other passing adjustably therethrough, forming an adjustable loop 4 by means of which the length of the bond may be varied. This loop passes freely through one portion of a buckle 5 and thus secures it to the strip, the other or free end of said strip being arranged to be engaged with the buckle to fasten the bond. The longitudinal bond 1 is provided between the loop 4 and its free end with a reinforcing member 6 which is secured to said bond at intervals by suitable fastening means and which forms with the bond a longitudinally extending series of retaining eyes 7. The transverse bonds 2 are designed to pass freely through any two of the eyes 7 and to be held thereby in proper longitudinally spaced relation. It will be noted that by this arrangement the distance between the two transverse bonds may be varied at will by passing the latter through different eyes 7. And it will be further noted that when any portions of the loops 4 of the transverse bonds 2, pass through the eyes 7, the latter will serve to hold the two parts of said loops 4 in proper alinement.

In the practical use of my improved package-tie, the lengths of the bonds are adjusted according to the size of the package to which they are to be applied, and said bonds are passed around the package as clearly indicated in Fig. 1, and are drawn tight, the free ends of said bonds being engaged with the respective buckles to secure the bonds in place.

From the above description, in connection with the accompanying drawing, it will be ap arent that I have provided an improve package tie which consists of comparatively few parts that may be easily and cheaply manufactured and readily assembled, and which may be conveniently employed as a parcel carrier, and is susceptible of various other uses.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim is.

1. A package tie comprising a longitudinal bond and a plurality of transverse bonds, and a reinforcing member secured at intervals to the longitudinal bond and forming a plurality of eyes through which the res ective transverse bonds pass and in which t icy are detachably held, and also an additional number of eyes over and above the number of transverse bonds, as and for the purpose set forth.
