CARLOS N. BRUZAUD, OF PEEKSKILL, NEW YORK.
HEAD-COVERING FOR AUTOMOBILISTS AND CHAUFFEURS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 20, 1908.
Application led. August 14, 1907. Serial No. 388,516.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARLOS N. BRUZAUD, a citizen of the Republic of France, residing at Peekskill, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Head-Coverings for Automobilists and Chaulieurs, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to head coverings for automobiliste and chauffeurs, and one of its objects is to provide a cap wherein the viZor consists of a relatively movable section provided withlenses to adapt it to be used as an eye shield.
A further object of my invention is to provide means adapted to secure the movable section of the vizor in eye shielding position.
A still further object of my invention is to provide means adapted to rigidly secure the section of the vizor in normal position.
Vith the above and other objects in View, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, where- 111:-
Figure l is a perspective view of a cap constructed in accordance with my invention, the goggles being illustrated in inoperative position. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the cap, the goggles being illustrated in operative position, and Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3 3 of Fig. l.
Referring to the drawing by reference numerals, 2 designates a cap and 3 the vizor olf the same. The cap and its vizor may be of any suitable shape or contour and constructed of any suitable material.
The vizor consists of a relatively stationary section l and a relatively movable section 5, the movable section being connected to the stationary section by means of hinges 6. The relatively movable section 5 is provided with openings in which lenses 7 are secured. The lenses 7 adapt the relatively movable section 5 of the vizor to beused as an eye shield, and the lenses are so `positioned that when the section is moved into eye shielding position they are in proper relation to the eyes. The relatively movable section 5 is adapted to be held in eye shielding position by means of tapes or other flexible members 8, each of which has one of its ends secured to the section 5 in longitudinal alinement with the lenses 7, whereby when the members are passed about the head of the wearer to secure the section in eye shielding position they form shields for the eyes of the wearer. When it is not desired to shield the eyes, the section is swung upwardly and secured in its normal position by means of a latch member 9, which is pivotally secured to the relatively stationary section 4, as fully shown in Fig. 3 of the drawing. IVhen the relatively movable section 5 is in its normal position, the vizor has the usual appearance, and the ends of the tapes or other iexible members S may be tied into a bow 10, as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing.
It should be apparent from the above description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, that I provide a cap wherein a portion of the vizor may be used as an eye shield, that the same is simple in construction, efficient in use and cheap in manufacture.
Having fully described and illustrated my invention, what I claim is:
The combination with a cap, of a vizor consisting of a relatively stationary and a relatively movable section, said movable section being provided with openings and hingedly mounted upon the stationary section, lenses mounted in the openings, flexible members, each of which has one of its ends secured to the movable section in longitudinal alinement with the lenses, whereby when the members are passed about the head of the wearer to secure the vizor in eye shielding posi-tion they form shields for the eyes of the wearer, and a latch member pivotally mounted upon the stationary section and adapted to secure the movable section in normal position.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CARLOS N. BRUZAUD.
Witnesses:
NATHANIEL N. SEABURY, LEWIS B. GiLLno.
