To all whom it may concern:
DAVID GROTTA, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
COMBINED GARMENT AND HOSE-SUPPORTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 13, 1908.
Application filed. November 9, 1907. Serial No. 401,433.
Be it known that I, DAVID GROTTA, a citizen of the United States, residing at N ewark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Garment and Hose-Supporter; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to a new supporter for stockings, and is designed to be attached to a suitable garment, preferably a corset, forming a part thereof, each supporter being inwardly obliquely disposed on a tab, being in extension of the front edge of each side of the garment, in garments that fasten together in the front.
One of the objects of this arrangement of the supporters is to assist in holding the garment closed, and when it is held together by clasps, these clasps are not subjected to a strain to pull them apart, as is the case when the supporters are vertically attached or in clined downwardly and outwardly, in fact the strain on the clasps is relieved.
Another object of the invention is to cause the garment to be drawn in close to the body, and thus cause a supporting of the abdomen by the location of the crossed supporters in their operative positions.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which the figure is a front view of a corset made after my improved construction, and having the stocking supporter attached according to my invention.
The body 10 of the corset is open at the front, as usual, and has its front edges 11 fastened together by the clasps 12, which may be of any style. Projecting downwardly in extension of the front edges 11 are the tabs 13 which are so patterned that when the garment is closed, they normally hose.
The particular oblique arrangement of the supporters, causing an abdominal supporting structure and also acting to pull the garment together and relieving the clasps of most of their strain, is what constitutes the invention in this case.
If desired, I can form the garment with side tabs 16 to which can be vertically at tached supporters so as to form additional supports to the hose.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is p 1. A garment having front meeting edges, the sides adjacent to the meeting edges hav-' ing integral downwardly and obliquely extending tabs arranged to cross each other, and hose supporters secured to the tabs.
2. A garment having front'meeting edges, the bottom end of each meeting edge being out to extend across the other and the bottom edge of. each side extending downwardly toward the front meeting edge so that two obliquely arranged and crossed tabs are formed in one piece with the garment and in extension of each side, and hose supporters attached to the tabs.
8. A garment having front meeting edges, and hose supporters extending downwardly and obliquely from the bottom of the garment, each supporter being secured adjacent to the front edge and the supporters being attached on opposite sides and each supporter disposed to be normally suspended under the front edge other than the one to which it is attached.
In testimony, that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand this eighth day of November 1907.
