To all 'whom 'it may "concern: Be it known thatV I, AUGUST A. Busen, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Im rovement in Bottle-Openers, of which the folllowing is a full, clear, and exact description, lsuch as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and .use the same,'reference being had to the accompanying drawings, lorming part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a vertical sectional view through a bottle-opener constructed in accordance with my invention showing a bottle in o erative osition for removing the closure t 1ereon; ig. 2 is a front elevational view of said opener; Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view of a modied form of my invention; and Fig. 4 is a detail sectional view of still another form of my invention.
This invention relates to bottle-openers that are Aused for removing crown-seal clos sures from bottles, and particularlyto that type of crown-seal openers which are perinai'iently connected to a stationary support such, for exam le, as a Wall or bar in asaloon.
The object i my invention is to provide an opener .of the type referred to which is provided with means for indeiiting or )erforating the metal caps l' the crown-sea closures that it removes so that said caps cannot be used again.
I have herein shown my invention in connection with a bottle-opener of the construction' described in United States Patent -N o. 885,028, to F. C. Emrick and J. K. Baer, dated April 21, 1908, and referring to the drawings w ich illustrate my invention, A designates an opener that is adapted to be permanently connected to a sup ort B. Said opener com- -prises a post 1 against which the metal cap C of a crown-seal closure is pressed, as shown iii Fig. 1, and segmental-shaped lips 2 which are adapted to project underneath the crimped flange oi' the cap C and pr it ofi the mouth of the bottle when the bott e is tilted upwardly or downwardly, as clearly ldescribed in the patent referred to, said lips being arranged between segmental side walls 2a. The post 1, against which the cap C is pressed in the 0 eration of removing the closure, is provide with -an' indenting or perforating member that forms an indentation or hole inthe top wall of the cap C during the operation of removing it so as to prevent the cap from being used again..
In. the forni of my invention illustrated in Figs. 1, and 2 the iin'lentiiig or perioratiiig 'member 3 consists ol a sharp-pointed screw mounted iii the post 1 and proiorting beyond the eiid tace of saine. `@Vith a construction of this descrigition the member J3 can be removed ands iarpened when it becomes dull or it can be replaced by a new iiulentiiig 0r perforating iiiember so that the opener proper can be used indefinitely. Another advantage of sucha construction is that the indenting or erforating member 3 can. bc ad'usted relatively to the post 1 so that it wiil project the proper distance beyond the end tace of the post 1. And still another advantage is that the perforatiiig member can be formed from hard material that will not dull c uickly.
Iii Fig. 3 I have illustrated a slightly modified form of my invention in which the indenting or perlioiating member consists of a device 4 formed from pressed metal and secured to the post 1, said device being provided witli a sharp point 3 that forms a perforation inthe cap C dui-ing the operation of removing same. Instead of lorniiiig the indenting oi perforatiiig iiienibcr separate from the post 1 the eiid'lace oi'said post can be provided with an integral sharp-pointed projection 3" that forinsa perforation in the cap O when it is forced against the eiid tace of said post.
Having thus describedmy invention, what I claim as'new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A bottle-opener comprising a member provided with mea-iis for remi "ng a closure cap from a bottle, and a reiiio\ anic device on said member for forming an indentation or perforation in the top face of said cap during the operation of removing same; substantially as described.
2. A bottle-opener consisting of a member provided with a post against which a bottleclosure is pressed, means coperating with said post for removing the closure, and a removable device on said post for forming an indentation or perforation in the' closure during the operation of removing saine substantially as described.
3. A bottle-opener consisting of a member provided with a post against which a bottleclosure is ressed, means ooereting with ried by seid post for forming an indentation said post for removing the e osure, and a or perfortion in the closure duringr the opersharpfpointed device edjustahly mounted in seid post for forming a perforation in the 01osure durinof the 0 eration of removing seme substentely es c escribed.
