CASABIANCA B. VI-IITE, OF GOLDFIELD, COLORADO. A
BOTTLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 587,895, dated August 10, 1897.
Application iiled October 31, 1896. Serial No. 610,685. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, OASABIANCA B. VHITE, a citizenof the United States of America, residing at Goldfield, in the county of El Paso and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full,
clear, and exact description of the invention,
ing evidence of the fact by a destruction of a part of the bottle.
The invention consists in the peculiar construction of the bottle by which it is provided at its lower end or base with a filling-orifice and at its upper end with aneck terminating in a bulb, the diameter of the filling-orifice being greater than the inner diameter of the neck, all as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, I have illustrated my invention by a side elevation, partly in section.
A designates the bottle, which is provided with a raised bottom A', having centrally a depending member B, that forms the fillingorifice, which is preferably tapered, as shown. The iilling-oriiice is provided near itsouter end with an internal annular groove b, adapted to receive the edge of a disk which is forced into place after the insertion of a cork D, the disk bearing against the end of said cork.
The upper part of ,the bottle is provided with a neck E of ordinary configuration, the same having a bead or flange e, above which is a bulb E', connected to the upper end of the neck by a minimum amount of material. The opening in the neck extends slightly into the bulb or above the groove e', which is formed at the junction of these parts. It will be noted that the opening in the neck E is of less diameter than the least diameter of the filling-orifice in the depending member B at the bottom of the bottle.
In iilling a bottle constructed as herein shown and described a cork or plug F is rst y permanently lin place.
passed th rough the filling-orifice in the member B up through the bottle and into the neck E. The bottle is then ready to be filled by turning it upside down, and after being filled the cork D is placed into the filling-orifice and the disk C forced or sprung into place to engage the annular groove t) and hold said cork If desired, cement may be placed over the disk as a further means of protection. When it is desired to remove the contents of the bottle, the bulb E is broken off at the upper end of the neck E and the cork F withdrawn in the usual manner. It will be noted that when the bulb is broken off the upper part of the bottle presents the shape of an ordinary bottle.
IVith my improved bottle it is not necessary to place any covering or cap over the cork in the neck, as the bulb gives the bottle an ornamental appearance in addition to forming a seal that has to be broken or destroyed before access can be had to the contents.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters As an improved article of manufacture, a bottle having a bottom filler and a breakable neck the same being constructed to present a base having a raised bottom with a centrallydepending portion with a tapered opening which is intersected by an annular groove b, opposite to which the wall of the depending portion is of increased thickness, a plug orcork 1), and metallic disk C, which is sprung into the annular groove so as to be permanently retained thereby over the larger end of the plug-the upper end of the bottle having a neck the internal diameter of which is less than the diameter of the -iilling-orice, said neck having a bead c connected by a thin wall forming a thin annular groove c' above which extends the opening in the neck and a solid bulb integral with the upper end of the neck, substantially as shown and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CASABIANCA B.WHITE.
